The Georgia High School Association has announced that opening day of the 2021 season will commence on Feb. 15. Programs were allowed to begin practicing in an official capacity on Jan. 18, meaning it's time for the PBR Georgia staff to break down the high school baseball scene in the state in the countdown to the first pitch thrown in 2021.Over the next several weeks, leading up to opening day, we will be publishing our team previews ahead of the 2021 spring season, touching on programs spanning multiple state classifications, counting down the official PBR Georgia Preseason Power 25 Rankings.

Pitching and offense. The Broncos bring back six pitchers who have a considerable amount of experience, three starters and three relief arms. The rotation, in particular, is going to be a strong one. Wofford commit RHP/3B Carter Bailey (2021), RHP/INF Dylan Lonergan (2023), and RHP/OF Josh Sosa (2021) are going to form a tough staff for opponents to get by. Bailey is a pitch-ability arm, sitting in the mid-80s with feel for a multi-tier curveball and a solid changeup. He is a workhorse type arm that eats up innings. At times, it looks like he is on cruise control.

Lonergan offers up something a little different. Physically advanced at 6-foot-2, 208 pounds, he is equipped with one of the most powerful arms in the entire 2023 class. Lonergan is capable of running his fastball up into the low 90s with seemingly no effort. We saw him late in the summer sit 88-91, touching 92. He has great feel for his fastball too, spotting it up to both sides of the plate. He had a dominant first year on the mound and there is little doubt that he will continue to dominate batters throughout the state for years to come.

Dylan Lonergan

Sosa offers a third experienced arm to the rotation. He can sit in the mid-80s and run it up into the upper-80s with a nice 11/5 breaking ball in his back pocket. The two-way prospect will also step up his role in the offense and has the potential to have a big season.

Josh Sosa

The offense is going to have some real speed on it with the likes of Sosa and USC-Aiken commit OF Josh Sharp (2021). They should be flying around the bases often with the amount of power the Broncos have in the lineup. The big bats of Winthrop commit C/1B Jack Spyke and Georgia Southern commit 1B/OF Jonathan Jaime (2022) are going to be major power run producers for the lineup with their power.

OUTLOOK
The Brookwood Broncos have a talented roster that can make a challenge at Parkview for the region title. They have have experience up and down the line up with a strong senior class of 15 players, and role players who compete.

Brookwood has three legitimate starters and a bullpen that has seen innings. They have great speed, and dangerous hitters. The one real area that might have questions is the defensively. The Broncos have talented players in the field, it just comes down to playing consistently and peaking at the end of the season. Come playoffs, in a three game series, this team is going to give anyone a dog fight.
