PBR Georgia has now been covering the state for over two years, which means we have been able to get multiple looks, through showcases, LakePoint, and the high school season, at many of the prospects in region. Today, we take a look at the progress that LHP
Dawson Coe (Loganville, 2022) has made.
We got our first look at Coe at the Georgia Showdown back in early June when he was playing for Team Elite. At the time, we liked the offensive abilities of Coe as a powerful right-handed hitting first baseman. His athletic hands and the overall strength in his, at the time, 6-foot-1, 188-pound frame played well, as he routinely found the barrel and banged the ball around the park all weekend long.
Fast forward over half a year and my how things have changed. Coe has given up the bat in favor of his left-handed arm and has worked hard to transform his body. He has added nearly 10 pounds of muscle, weighing in at 195-pounds and tightened up his overall physique with that muscle. On the mound, he is gonig to be a left-handed hitters worst nightmare this spring. Working from a low 3/4 slot and striding towards the first base side of the mound, his arm whips across his body, releasing the ball behind a left-handed hitters head.
Despite the unorthodox fashion in which he pitches, Coe has enough arm speed to accelerate out front and consistently get the ball over the plate. His fastball presently sits in the low-80s, topping out at 84, but given the work we have seen him put into his craft, more velocity is surely on the way. What will really be the game changer for him will be his curveball. The pitch comes in with a 2/8 shape and shows both depth and late bite, diving out of the zone at-times. The changeup is a mostly straight pitch, but provides a nice change of pace as he maintains his fastball arm speed. Look for Coe to be a big part of Loganville's bid to make it a fourth straight Class 5A state title this spring.

Scouting Report
1/12/20 - LHP Dawson Coe (Loganville, 2022) is going to be a nightmare for left-handed hitters to face this spring. Coe strides across the mound towards the first base side and utilizes a low ¾ slot, with the ball seemingly coming out behind the hitters head. His fastball touched 84, and there is more in the tank. He compliments it with a 2/8 breaking ball that showed depth and some bite to it.
