Season Review: Harris County

Our goal at Prep Baseball Report is to promote high school players, and give them the exposure they need to be able to play at the next level. With the 2020 high school season cancelled, we want to continue to be able to promote players, even when baseball is not being played. We have sent surveys out to coaches around the state and got their input on the first weeks of the season. Over the next few weeks, we will highlight the season and standout players, team by team.

13th ranked catcher in the state of Georgia. 

1/11/2020 - 5-foot-11, 175-pound right-handed hitting catcher, athletically built with strength throughout frame, plenty of room to make additional gains, ran a 6.90 laser-timed 60. Impressed as one of the top defensive performers on the day. Arm action is short and quick coming out of an unorthodox ¾ slot, however he knows how to play the run on his ball and make accurate throws, 78 mph out of the crouch. Actions are clean and fluid, consistent and smooth footwork, gets out of the crouch quickly, soft glove-hand while receiving, pop times ranged 2.00-2.12. Offensively, has a simple, quiet setup, open stance, hands start low and load back with some barrel wrap, short stride to a balanced position, little pre-pitch movement. Swing works with little effort in an uphill path through the zone, squared the ball back up the middle consistently, 90 exit velocity.

Underclass Standouts

Tanner Cotton, RHP, Harris County, 2022

Season Statistics: 3 APP, 3-0 record, 15 IP, 14 hits, 5 BB, 26 K's, 3 R, 3 ER, 1.40 ERA

The Sophomore had two impressive wins against Smiths Station (AL) and Columbus High School. Cotton was working 82-85 with a plus BB. He was the #2 as a freshman and sophomore and expect more velocity to come. His off speed stuff is advanced for his age. Everything works off his ability to locate the BB and change and he does a good job pounding the outside half with the fastball.
