Our goal at Prep Baseball Report is to promote high school players, and give them the exposure they need to be able to play at the next level. With the 2020 high school season cancelled, we want to continue to be able to promote players, even when baseball is not being played. We have sent surveys out to coaches around the state and got their input on the first weeks of the season. Over the next few weeks, we will highlight the season and standout players, team by team.

10/14/18 - Johnston already posses a nice infielders frame that he will continue to grow into. He stands 5-foot-10 150-pounds. Defensively he shows some quickness to his feet and actions. The ball enters his glove clean and shows good hands both stationary and on the move. His arm is accurate and shows feel for delivering the baseball. At the plate Johnston has a nice balanced set-up with a straight away approach. He starts with his weight over his back-side and gives himself a chance to use the field, with some leverage to his swing. Much like in the field Johnston's hands are an asset and shows willingness to stay inside the baseball. As Johnston adds needed strength look for him to start showing good power to both gaps, on top of his already good feel for using the field.

11/10/19 - 5-foot-9, 165-pound right-handed pitcher, athletically built. Short, clean arm action on the back-side, easy effort, high ¾ slot. Tall and fall delivery, strides long down the mound for size, works on-line, lands toe-closed, finishes square to home in a defensive position. Fastball sat 78-80, touched 81, sinking action. Curveball, shape varied between 11/5 and 12/6, 68-71, gradual break to pitch. Changeup, 68-70, sinking action. Added intent overall will add to his game. Pitches to contact, induced two flyouts.

10/14/18 - Garner is a lean lanky projectable right-handed pitcher, with solid rhythm and flow to his delivery. His arm works well, and stay online behind him for added deception. Would like to see Garner stay tall over the rubber and not collapse on his back-side, as he looses natural leverage and angle to his fastball. That being said the ingredients are very good and love how everything works from a projection standpoint. It is not hard to see his stuff climb with needed strength gains, but have little doubt he will progress on the mound if he puts in the work. The young right-hander is already running his fastball up to 82 MPH and sitting in the (79-80) range. He will climb into a little higher slot than his natural high-3/4 with his breaking ball trying to give it shape, but has plenty of time to overcome and work through what kind of breaking ball he will end up with. Bright future on the mound for Garner and will be a close follow for us over the coming years.

2/14/2020 - 6-foot-1 188-pounds. Stocky frame, came in and showed a few strong innings in relief. Showed confidence, and toughness pitching with his team down by 5. FB was 80-82. Over the top arm action, worked down the mound, and used his lower half well. Could really spin the CB at 66-67. Used it in any count, and buried it when he needed to.

Season Statistics: 6IP 2.3 ERA with 6 K's and only 2 BB's 10/19/19 - 6-foot-1 170-pounds. Has thrown well this fall, and continued to do so in some tough conditions this past weekend. He started the game with rainfall coming down. FB was sitting 79-81. He attacks hitters early in the account, and is not afraid to challenge hitters inside with his FB. Stuck with the FB most of the time due to the conditions. Competitor on the mound, and gets the job done.
