Prep Baseball Report

Season Review: Woodstock

Phil Kerber
Georgia Scouting Director

Our goal at Prep Baseball Report is to promote high school players, and give them the exposure they need to be able to play at the next level. With the 2020 high school season cancelled, we want to continue to be able to promote players, even when baseball is not being played. We have sent surveys out to coaches around the state and got their input on the first weeks of the season. Over the next few weeks, we will highlight the season and standout players, team by team.

Preston Gunnell, OF, Woodstock, 2021
Season Stats: 368 AVE, 4 2Bs, 2 HRs, 6 RBI, 14 Runs, 11BBs, .510 OBP, 9 SBs  runs really well and can play OF/ Corner IF. Great Athlete.

2/19/20 - 6-foot-1, 175-pound right-handed hitting outfielder, athletic frame, proportional build with lean strength throughout, projects to add more as he physically matures, knows how to handle the bat. Offensively, is balanced at the plate, high hands drop smoothly on load to an athletic position, short stride, great balance through contact. Has an aggressive approach at the plate, looks for fastballs early in the count and jumps all over them. Pull-side hitter who has shown the ability to hit for power and contact in the past. Quick, strong hands, flick the barrel through the zone smoothly.

Christian Preiser, OF/ C, Woodstock, 2021
Season Stats: .314 AVE, 2 3Bs, 6 RBI, 11 Runs, 8 BBs, .455 OBP

Blake Aita, RHP, Woodstock, 2021
Season Stats: 2-1 record- 21.1 IP, 1.31 ERA, 4 ER, 11 BB, 23 K

Coach’s Notes: Has made a huge jump this year in his velo due to his body developing- Showed command with the FB and pitchability with the SL. Gonna be one to watch this summer.

11/10/19 - 6-foot-2, 180-pound right-handed pitcher, long frame, high-waist, projects to add significant strength to his frame. Action is clean on the back-side, gets out front to a high ¾ slot working on top of the ball with above-average arm speed. Tall and fall delivery, works on-line, lands square, finishes crossing over. Fastball sat 80-83, late arm-side run, located around the zone. Slider, tight spin, short, sharp sweep to it, generated weak contact and pop-ups consistently in his appearance. Changeup, maintained arm speed, had fade and sink, 72-73. Faced four batters, got three pop-ups and one walk.

Garrett Goblish, RHP, Woodstock, 2021
Season Stats: 2-1 record, 1 Save, 8.2 IP, 3 ER, 11 ks, 2.42 ERA, BAA-.107,

Coach’s Notes: bounced back from a rough first outing to throw 7 consecutive scoreless innings. Velo is mid 80’s with a good breaking ball. He will be one to watch this summer.

10/18/19 - 5-foot-10 170-pounds. Started the semi-final game for the Titans. Was a standout at the GA showdown. Velo has held through the fall. FB topped out at 86 this past weekend, sat 83-84 with really good life and ASR. Showed the ability to throw all pitches for strikes. Had a plan and executed batter after batter. Kept hitters guessing, and made the FB more effective with having the off speed for strikes. Competes on the mound, and has a really loose arm that projects more velo to come. Look forward to seeing Goblish at Woodstock this spring.

Underclass Standouts

Kameron Douglas, OF/RHP/1B, Woodstock, 2022
Uncommitted, Nationally Ranked in the 2022 class.
Season Stats: .289 AVE, 3 2bs, 1 HR, 7 RBI, 6 Runs

Coach’s Notes: Tall Lanky kid that has yet to fill out. Potential is off the charts. Very quick hands and already shows pop at the plate. On the mound he is mid 80’s and pitches with swagger.

9/27/19 - 6-foot-2, 165-pound right-handed hitting outfielder, projectable athlete, developing strength throughout frame, quick-twitch muscle. Offensively, smooth rhythm with a back and forth wag of the hands, balanced setup, hands load back, barrel stays upright, short stride. Gap-to-gap type hitter, barrel is quick to the zone at a level angle, at-time gets extension through the zone, strong wrists flick the barrel.
