Senior Superlatives: Top Defensive Outfielders

PBR Georgia Staff

It has been a busy few weeks for Prep Baseball Report and PBR Georgia regarding the Class of 2020 and the approaching 2020 MLB Draft. First, we had the update of the
2020 National Rankings, with Georgia being well-represented, followed by the combined High School, Junior College and College 2020 Draft Board. Extending over the next few weeks, we are going to dive into the 2020 Georgia rankings and give our take on the prospects who possess the top tools in the state. Yesterday, we began by looking at the top-5 left-handed bats, top-5 right-handed batstop power hitters, and top speed in the state. Today, we look at the top-5 defensive outfielders in the state's 2020 class.

Top Defensive Outfielders

Brad Grenkoski OF / RHP / Kell , GA / 2020

From Kell, Grenkoski showed up as a two-player for the scouts in attendance. He has above-average arm strength off the mound and in the outfield and is one of the older members of this 2020 class. He’s tooled-up across the board and is primed for a big spring, but he’ll need to answer some questions regarding his hit tool, that’ll determine just how much of his strength and power he’ll get to in games.

Nate McCollum OF / Dutchtown, GA / 2020

McCollum is a live bodied Dual-Sport athlete from Dutchtown.  The compact and strong right-handed hitting outfielder can really turn on the jets and has promising bat-speed as well.  Originally committed to North Carolina State, McCollum has decided to say home and is now set to attend Georgia Tech to play football and baseball next year.

Dalton Pearson OF / Johns Creek, GA / 2020

Young right handed hitting OF who recently transferred into Johns Creek HS.  Bat-speed and rhythm are apparent right away.  Will have to answer some profile questions in the future, but definitely a good next level player in the future.

Dominick McIntyre OF / 3B / Peachtree Ridge, GA / 2020

One word comes to mind watching McIntyre play: impact. It’s not just the impact speed that he produced during his 60-yard dash (6.57), it is the way that speed plays during the game. He showed the ability to be on base and pressure the defense as soon as he left the box. McIntyre is an aggressive runner with instincts, and he shows the good doubles-type power to all fields and always leaves the box looking for three. Defensively, his arm plays best in center and left fields. He is also serviceable defensively in the infield, but his speed makes give him more value in the outfield.

Blake Bortak OF / LHP / Archer , GA / 2020

Standing 5-foot-11, 170-pounds the right-handed hitting outfielder possesses high-end athleticism and natural foot speed that lends itself to every facet of the game. An elite runner, he uses his speed to cover ground quickly in center field, plays through the ball aggressively and with smooth actions, making him a naturally born center fielder. On the base paths he uses this same speed to be disruptive and keep the defense thinking about his threat. At the plate, Bortak has quick hands that generate line drive contact, has flashed the ability to create leverage and elevate the ball with force.
