TN: JUCO: Cleveland State

Tim Kay
PBR Tennessee Director of Scouting

On Friday, we were present for the first day of games as part of the TCCAA Fall Showcase, hosted by Lipscomb University.  Friday brought together Cleveland State, Jackson State, Motlow State and Volunteer State.  Below is a look at Cleveland State and the players that jumped out to us during their two games.

PARKER HILL SS / 2B / DOBYNS BENNETT, TN / 2017

2-4, 2B

6-0, 188-pound middle infielder picked up a couple hits in the first game, the only game he played, including a double.  Medium, athletic frame w/ some present lower half strength, some upper body projection.  Offensively, hits w/ an open, slightly crouched stance w/ quiet hands into shift of weight, stride to open and very short hand load.  Generates bat speed through the zone.  Barrel stays in the zone for a long time.  Pull oriented approach w/ lot of line drives when right.  Lower half working against him right now, consistent hip leak.  Tools to hit as he learns to work with his lower half, keep hips through the baseball.  Gap power type, wants to use his above average running speed underway to leg out extra base hits.  Ran a 4.38 down the line from the left side.  Defensively, shows the tools to stay at SS w/ soft hands, good footwork, arm strength w/ carry to target.
