The Rode Show: Strong Outings For Chapman, Stuempfig

JUPITER, FL—One repeating theme of Jupiter is that there will always be players that step into the spotlight, ones that may have not stood out, or even been, at major events over the summer. That summed up my Saturday, as I saw a few players in person for the first time.
While waiting for one game to start, I peeked at an adjacent field and caught my first look at RHP Logan Chapman (Easley HS, SC). He has a lean, projectable frame at 6-foot-3, 180 pounds and pitches with a medium tempo and some effort. His fastball sat 90-91 mph, touching 92. The curveball has good shape with depth, though it was inconsistent. He mixed in a changeup at 84-85. In two innings, he struck out two.
After catching that outing, I returned to the game I was waiting for to see LHP Jake Eder (Atlantic HS, FL). Eder had a solid outing, but it was RHP Ryan Stuempfig (Flower Mound HS, TX) that caught my eye. The 6-foot-4, 200-pounder has a long action with some funk, but gets it back out front. His fastball was 88-90 with some arm-side sink while he mixed in two breaking balls—a sharp, tight slider at 80-81 and a curveball with more depth at 74.
