Two Talented Underclassman Matched Up Tuesday

Blake Davis
State Director, Georgia

Two talented underclassman matched up at Westlake high school on Tuesday. Westlake featured 2019 shortstop Miles Austin (Alabama commit), who went 2-4 with an RBI, while Campbell countered with 2021 RHP/SS Michael Braswell, who went 3-5 with an RBI. The game was not decided until late, when Spartans freshman Braswell singled in the 8th inning to secure a 4-3 victory.

Myles Austin SS / Westlake, GA / 2019

Alabama commit has a long, lean and projectable 6-foot-3 180-pound frame. He shows fluid actions in the field and at the plate. Body type and actions are similar to a young Adam Jones. Though he has not grown into that type of power he offers plenty of projection. It is unclear if shortstop will be his final destination, but he has plenty of arm strength and actions to hold down the spot for now.

Braswell led the Spartans to the win offensively, but also showed impressive ability on the mound, going five innings, giving up five hits and one walk, while striking out ten.

Michael Braswell RHP-SS / Campbell, GA / 2021

The 6-footer has a lean, athletic build with plenty of room to add strength. The projectable youngster has a fast arm and pitches from a high-3/4 arm slot with his fastball (84-86). His breaking ball (68-72) offers shape and spin, and will occ show late snap. His deep takeaway gives a small window early in his delivery, but a good front side and shoulder tilt makes him deceptive up top. He works at fast pace and is aggressive to the zone, coming down the mound in a hurry and leaving his arm behind at times. Might be talented enough to go both ways at the next level. Will be a fun one to watch over the coming years.
