Uncommitted Spotlight: 3B/1B Bryson Lofton
March 23, 2020
Today we spotlight 3B/1B Bryson Lofton (Southeast Whitfield, 2021). We got our first look at Lofton early in the summer at the PBR Georgia Showdown at LakePoint. The 6-foot, 210-pound left-handed hitting corner infielder sports a physical frame with strength throughout. He showed good bat speed in the zone and the ability to hit for power from gap-to-gap. Since then, Lofton has put in an impressive amount of work on his body. Take a look at the two videos below and it is easy to tell that he has turned much of the mass he carried into some serious strength and power at the plate, now standing 6-foot-1, 210-pounds. In the 13 games Southeast Whitfield were able to get in before the season was suspended, Lofton went 16-for-36 in 46 plate appearances, with eight doubles, eight singles, 19 runs batted in, six runs scored, 11 walks, and zero strikeouts. That is good for a .547 OBP, .667 SLG and 1.241 OPS. Lofton also saw time at every position on the infield (SS, 3B, 2B, 1B), and committed only three errors. A left-handed hitter, Lofton was the recipient of the Hitter of the Week award on March 3rd for his performance from February 23rd to March 1st where he went 9-for-13 with four doubles, five singles, 10 runs batted in, three walks and four runs scored.
Lofton is also a standout TE on the gridiron. In 2019, he was selected as 1st Team All-Area and 1st Team All-Region, catching 29 straight passes with zero drops for 402 yards and 3 TDs.
