Updated & Expanded 2024 Alabama Rankings

PBR Alabama Staff

The 2021 high school season in the state of Alabama has come to a close after a successful season, and it's time to shift gears and get ready for a loaded summer circuit. With that being the case, the PBR Alabama Staff has come together to update and expand the Class of 2024 Player Rankings for Alabama. Our staff was able to get out to many games this spring and see some of the freshman that played a big role for their teams at such a young age.

This class is filled with projectable arm and hitters that have already shown that they can hit at the highest level of competition that the state can offer. We've also added 25 players to this list, which expands the total number to 100 players. These rankings will obviously change over the course of time and other players will make their way into the rankings, but here's the Updated and Expanded 2024 Player Rankings in Alabama heading into the summer of 2021...

The Top-5

Jackson Sanders LHP / Valley , AL / 2024

A 6-2, 170-pound southpaw who has already shown the ability to throw the fastball up to 90 mph this spring as the ace for 6A Valley HS, Sanders exudes projection with elite competitiveness. Fills up the zone with an 87-88 mph heater that flashes occasional cut and a sharp, 1/7 breaking ball to compliment. Also an exceptional athlete, Sanders projects well and is regarded as the top left-handed pitcher in the country.

Commitment: Auburn

Henry Allen 3B / 1B / Auburn , AL / 2024

Allen attended his first PBR event this January before the high school season at the Preseason All-State event, and it wasn't hard to tell that the 6-1, 185-pound third baseman could swing it. Played mostly on Auburn HS's JV team through the regular season, but made the most of his opportunity when he was inserted in the 3-hole in the Elite 8 of the Class 7A Playoffs. Recorded multiple big hits for the Tigers, en route to a Class 7A State Championship in 2021.

Commitment: Mississippi State

Tanner Waldrop 3B / SS / Auburn , AL / 2024

Waldrop was on Team Alabama at last summer's PBR Junior Future Games, and his performance there, combined with the tools, showed why he is currently ranked at No. 3 in this update. 6-0, 175-pound frame with more physical maturity coming in the future, but the actions and movements are there for the left-handed hitting third baseman. Level bat plane that continuously made solid contact during gameplay for Team Alabama and produced a 94 mph EV.

Christian Chatterton RHP / SS / Brooks, AL / 2024

Bursted onto the scene with an electric bullpen at this January's Preseason All-State event with a fastball that worked up to 88 mph. Showed feel for spin on a power breaking ball at 72-74 mph with spin up into the 2700 rpm's. Tossed a complete game, no-hitter for his high school team this year, and will be fun to see the progress and strides he continues to make over the next few years.

Commitment: Auburn

Bailey Thorne 3B / RHP / Russell County, AL / 2024

Thorne started off the spring hot with the bat, hitting in the middle of the order for his high school team. Physical 5-10, 175-pound hitter with broad shoulders and electric bat speed allows him to hit for power at such a young age. Has shown this spring that he can handle an elite caliber of arms with ease. Tons of strength packed into the frame, which should bode well for more power down the road.

Risers Outside the Top-5

3B Peyton Steele (Hartselle) made a huge impact offensively for the 6A Hartselle Tigers, who made a run to Montgomery and finished as the Class 6A Runner-Up in 2021. Slotted in the 5-hole, Steele was a consistent force with present pull-side pop and he debuts at No. 7 in this update. OF RJ Brooks (Oxford) also makes his way into the Top-10 after getting some big hits for 6A Oxford in the Class 6A Playoffs. Brooks has plenty of tools as a switch-hitting outfielder, but one that stands out now is 6.82 speed. A teammate of Steele, 2B Josey Williamson (Hartselle) was another freshman that Hartselle depended on greatly for offensive production in 2021. Excellent bat-to-ball skills from the left side, always seemed to make hard contact in each at-bat with comfortable takes. RHP/2B Carter Johnson (Oxford) was another freshman that 6A Oxford relied on greatly in 2021, both on the mound and at the plate. Game 2 starter on the mound with a fastball that reached the mid-80's this spring, and played 2nd base and hit in the 3-hole when he was pitching. 1B Tucker Arrington (Thompson) jumped up 17 spots in this update due to his performance in limited at-bats for 7A Thompson and how well he performed at Sunday's Future/Junior Future Games Trials event. 6-0, 195-pound left-handed hitter with some thump in his bat and feel to hit to all fields during BP. Produced an EV at 88.2 mph, and will be one to watch over the next few years. 3B Kaleb Hester (Chelsea) hit his way into the Hornet's lineup at the midway point of the season, and stayed in the lineup for the duration of the season. Provided some extra base hits for a talented offense at 6-0, 175-pounds. Quick hands through the zone with a projectable frame.
