Thursday

Harris County @ Starr’s Mill

Score: Starr’s Mill win, 5-4

Standouts:

Brock Rein, 3B/RHP, 2026, Starr’s Mill

Maddox Mothershed, 2B, 2028, Starr’s Mill

Daejeon Elder, SS, 2026, Harris County

Will Dimitri, 3B, 2028, Harris County

Key Moments: The first runs of this highly anticipated match-up would come in the 2nd inning as Starr’s Mill took advantage of a 5 walk inning. The Panthers put up a 4 spot to take a 4-0 lead heading to the 3rd inning. Harris County didn’t go away as they scratched and clawed their way back into it. The Tigers added a pair of runs in the 5th inning behind a Sam Harkins single, Will Dimitri RBI double, and a Hudson Clark infield single. The score would remain the same at 4-2 going to the 7th. Dimitri instantly set the tone as he came through with a single and Daejeon Elder brought him home on an RBI double to cut the deficit to 4-3. Elder would then move over to third base on a grounder with 2-outs. A passed ball would knot things up at 4-4 to send it to the bottom half of the 7th. Where things were quiet until the bottom of the 8th. Where Brock Rein hammered the first pitch of the at-bat over the right-field wall for the lead-off solo homerun to walk it off as the Panthers won the region championship by a score of 5 to 4.

Avery’s Takeaway: With a region championship on the line this game delivered with an instant classic. The Panthers took good at-bats early on resulting in a 4-run inning. Maddox Mothershed and Brock Rein powered the offense with a pair of base-hits including the walk-off HR from Rein. The top half of this lineup can hurt you on any given night and the Panthers are a tough ask when 1-5 in the order are right. As far as Harris County this team is rolling at the right moment as they look forward to the playoffs. The depth of the lineup 1-9 always stands out as they are an extremely scrappy group that seems to always find a way even when facing mid 90’s. Will Dimitri (3-hits) and Daejeon Elder (RBI 2B) paced the offense albeit in a tight loss. Jackson Starling impressed out of the pen as he gave the Tigers crucial innings when needed. These are two teams that appear to be hot at the right time which bodes extremely well for a deep run in 4A.

Cherokee @ North Paulding (DH)

Score: GM1: Cherokee win 6-2, GM2: North Paulding win 13-12

Standouts:

Wesley Moering, 2B, 2027, North Paulding

Brennan Roth, SS, 2026, Cherokee

Daniel Head, 3B, 2026, Cherokee

Cade Cox, SS, 2026, North Paulding

Brandon Holstein, C, 2027, Cherokee

Adan Cifuentes, RHP, 2026, Cherokee

Key Moments: In game one, both teams would trade some early runs thanks to RBI knocks from Daniel Head and Lawson Sheffield before Cherokee would break things open in the 3rd. Warriors would score 4 in the inning as the first 5 batters would all reach base, playing small ball to a tee and getting timely RBI hits from Brandon Holstein and Brennan Roth. From that point on it was all Adan Cifuentes. The senior RHP would keep the Wolfpack lineup off-balance throughout the complete game win, generating soft contact and present command of the effective three-pitch mix; Game two would be a barnburner from the start as both offenses came out firing, combining for 16 runs across the first four innings highlighted by Cade Cox with 3 hits for North Paulding and two more hits for Brennan Roth, who would lead the Warriors in the game overall with a 3-for-4, 3B, 2B, 3 RBI game.

Ian’s Takeaway: North Paulding would close out the regular season with another region series win against quality competition and look prepared for another deep playoff run. The offense is clicking on full cylinders now that the Pack get fully healthy with Wesley Moering and Cade Cox finding their way into the lineup. Moering is hitting .451 in his 10 games since returning while providing rock solid defense in the middle infield and in his first game back after a brief absence, Cox would go 3-for-3 to one the game including two extra-base hits. Simply put, hitters hit. Lawson Sheffield and Bryce Davis continue to be as steady as you’ll find in the lineup and bring invaluable experience for this team in the postseason. Cherokee was only able to come away with one win in this series but both other games were decided by one-run and while moral victories aren't real, the Warriors will take some added confidence into the playoffs. Coach Thomas will get 110% of his roster every single ballgame with a small-ball oriented approach and aggressive base running that keeps all opposing teams on their toes. Huddy Will and Andre Sweet bring immense OBP-profiles at the top with a handful of run-producers in the middle with Holstein, Roth and Daniel Head all looking dialed at the plate right now. A tough first round matchup awaits for the Warriors but i’d be lying if I didn't think this club will make noise next week.
