Oahu Preseason ID: Quick Hits

Dan Cox
Scouting Director, Hawaii

On Sunday, January 7th, the PBR Hawaii staff hosted the Oahu Preseason ID at Pearl City High School. It was a loaded roster that included some of Hawaii's top committed talent, but it also featured a heavy crop of uncommitted players who are on the radar heading into the high school season.

Like all of our events, players participated in a pro-style workout in front of our staff and collected unrivaled data in the process through our top-of-the-line tech partners. These events also serve as identifiers for future invite-only events, like the Hawaii State Games, Future Games, Jr. Future Games, West Coast Games, West Coast Pro Case and more.

Now, at the event’s conclusion, our staff has combed through our notes from the day and put together these ‘Quick Hits’. Below you will learn more about a handful of names that stood out from the Oahu Preseason ID.

OAHU PRESEASON ID - QUICK HITS

+ Isaac Ahokovi, 2024 C - Ahokovi had the best BP power display of the event. Consistent loud swings (99.3mph EV), losing ball after ball to deep LF. Behind the dish he had a 2.03 pop-time. DI talent, on MLB scout’s radar.

___________________________________________________________

+ Treyden Chong Kee, 2025 MIF - Easily some of the best bat speed and pop at the event... +backspin/+carry. Offensive 2B/UTL and surprising he's not off the board to a Division I program yet. Has a chance to break into Hawaii's Top 10 in the Class of 2025.

___________________________________________________________

+ Bruin Agbayani, 2025 SS - Top 2025 prospect in Hawaii and did not disappoint. We know he can hit and the power will come last. Best arm strength we've seen to date (91mph INF). Body looks great (6-1, 180lbs) and ran well (7.13s). Strong 2025 MLB Draft follow.

___________________________________________________________

+ Aukai Araujo-Waiau, 2025 3B - Showed his bat speed (72.4mph avg) and raw power (95.7mph EV). We put him behind plate for the first time ever and he dropped everyone’s jaws with best pop-time (1.89s) and velocity (78mph) at the event. Value just went up as C/3B/UTL. Hawaii Class of 2025 Top 10 guy now.

___________________________________________________________

+ Bryson Toner, 2025 RHP - Body looks great with added strength (6-2, 180lbs). Up to 90mph on the mound with quality secondary stuff. Primed for huge 2024 focusing on pitching only from here on out.

___________________________________________________________

+ Kainoa Kaneshiro, 2025 RHP - Showed why he may have the best stuff in Hawaii, working up to 89.5mph with a chance for plus CB/SL/CH. Plenty of strikes to start and ++makeup, to boot.

___________________________________________________________

+ Elai Iwanaga, 2025 RHP - Most improved pitcher in Hawaii this past year. Love the delivery, looseness and ease. Iwanaga has a chance to throw hard with quality out-pitches. High-ceiling right-handed starter who's just scratching the surface.

___________________________________________________________

+ Chase Thompson, 1B/OF 2027 - Hawaii’s top-ranked 2027. Has grown a few inches and added strength with future Big League body. Offensively, the bat speed continues to improve and there's +feel for hitting now. Solid at first base on the defensive side. Great get for the University of Hawaii and strong MLB prospect.

___________________________________________________________

+ Alika Ahu, 2026 SS Body looks great (6-3, 180lbs) and it's a future Big League body. Solid BP, driving balls to all fields with a peak exit velocity of 94.5mph. Improved arm strength (87mph INF) with future +arm. Quality DI recruit who should expect a busy August 1st with DI calls/offers.

___________________________________________________________

+ Logan Sanchez, 2025 LHP May already be committed to a DI program if not undersized. Has some of the best stuff (2639rpm CB) in Hawaii with nasty CH and more velocity is coming. Love the confidence/presence. Quality DI recruit.

___________________________________________________________

+ Greyson Osbun, 2025 RHP Body looks great after adding 15 pounds. Best pitcher in Hawaii in 2023 and expecting a dominant 2024. Surprising he hasn't already paired up with a DI program.

___________________________________________________________

+ Pono Kong, 2025 RHP/C1.94 pop-time & did it with ease. Swung it alright, but it was work on the mound that impressed most. Was up to 86mph with future +stuff. Already showing advanced spin with FB (2331rpm) and CB (2520rpm), along with a CH which is his present best secondary pitch. Great get for University of Hawaii and strong 2027 MLB Draft follow.
