PBR:  Why did you choose the college you did?
WATERHOUSE: I chose Black Hawk College because when I arrived on campus, it felt like home. When I met the coaches, I knew this would be a great fit for me because they are very family oriented with the team. The baseball success has been at an all-time high with Coach Chavera in charge and I would love to contribute to that. Lastly, when I chose Black Hawk, I felt like I could make a great impact during my first year as a Brave!

PBR:  What other schools were you considering?
WATERHOUSE: I was also considering Heartland CC, Truman State, University of Wisconsin-Parkside, and St. Cloud State.

PBR:  Where did they first see you? How did your relationship develop with the coaching staff?
WATERHOUSE: Coach Doughty came and watched me pitch on a Wednesday night fall game. He then talked to Coach Noble (Pitching Coach) and he gave me a phone call. I talked to him a couple of different times and then we set up a visit. I met with Coach Noble and Coach Chavera and talked things over and toured the campus. I knew Black Hawk was a great fit for me so a couple of days later, I talked with Coach Noble and announced my commitment.

PBR: What role do you expect to play your first year on campus?
WATERHOUSE: I expect to play a huge role in the team’s success. Whether that be making a quality amount of starts or coming out of the bull-pen, I feel like I can make a big contribution and help Black Hawk win another conference championship.

PBR: Who has had the biggest impact on you as a baseball player?
WATERHOUSE: My Pitching Coach, Pete Blake has impacted me greatly. He has worked with me for 2 years and has taught me so many things to help me improve my pitching abilities. I have also had a former teammate and current teammate encourage me and push me to become a better player. They have helped me keep my head high during the recruiting process. Finally, as a pitcher, I look up to the Minnesota Twins Ace, Ervin Santana. I love the way he stays calm and collected on the mound as well as his pitching philosophy.

PBR: What have you worked on/improved since last year?
WATERHOUSE: Since last year, I have worked with my pitching Coach Pete Blake on balance points, using my lower half, pitch location, and velocity. I plan to gain more velocity and work on adding a pitch or two to my arsenal.

PBR: Who is the best player that you have played against or with?
WATERHOUSE: The best player that I have played with is Tanner Bedier. We have been playing together single Little League and have been best friends since. He is a dangerous hitter and even better pitcher with great craft. I expect to win the 3A State Championship with him by my side as well as the rest of my team. I also have to give huge props to my catcher Hogan McIntosh who in my mind is going to be an All-State catcher this year.

PBR:  What are your thoughts on the recruiting process? Any advice for other players who have the desire to play college baseball.
My advice for younger players or anyone else that wants to play baseball in college is to never count yourself out. Always take advantage of the opportunities given to you by your coaches, teammates, and parents. The recruiting process might seem long and tiring but always find a way to get your name out there. Talk to coaches, meet different people, and don’t be afraid to create conversation. Lastly, always keep a constant reminder in your head that there is a home for you out there and that all you have to do is get 1 person/coach interested in you.
