The PBR IA Fall Review event took place on Sunday, October 29, 2017. The event was held at Sports Iowa in Ames, IA. The event featured prospects from the 2018-2021 classes who showcased their talents in front of our scouting staff and college coaches in attendance.

Today we highlight the pitchers who performed at the end of the fall event.

The top infielder at this year's IA Fall Review event was 2018 Will Moritz from WDM Valley. Moritz is currently the #55 ranked prospect in the Iowa 2018 class. The WDM Valley product has a clean arm action producing mid 80's fastball with feel for the zone; along with a solid breaking ball for strikes.

PITCHER EVALUATIONS (ALPHABETICAL)

Evan Appenzeller, RHP, Boone, 2018
6-foot-5, 185-pound right-handed pitcher. Tall lean frame. #85 ranked player in IA 2018 class. Side step into athletic balance position with high knee raise and slight tuck and turn. Funky arm action on back-side but comes out clean in front with extension and finish to plate. Fastball was downhill for strikes, straight action, at 81-83 mph. Shows ability to land 11/5 breaking ball with solid shape and depth. Changeup is currently firm with straight action to plate and average fade.

Rick Atkins, LHP, Marion, 2019
6-foot, 170-pound left-handed pitcher. #13 ranked player in IA 2019 class. Side step into uptempo balance point, creates deception with front side, arm is long and loose out front, ball jumps on hitter. Fastball was 82-83 mph, delivered on a tilted plane, with late cutting action. Above avg. breaking ball with tight 1/7 spin and late hard break. Flashes above avg. action on changeup, occasionally firm, but looks to be usable third pitch.

Quintin Berglund, 3B/RHP, 2019
6-foot, 180-pound right-handed hitting 2-way player. 7.39 runner. Shoulder load, uses lower half well in swing, solid bat speed, lift through swing plane, spray contact with gap to gap approach, 81 mph exit velocity. Shows sure hands in the field, solid mechanics, has accuracy to bag with avg. carry and velocity, 69 mph arm strength across infield. On mound; controlled rocker step, picks up tempo in delivery, higher knee with turn at balance point, finishes upright to plate with slight recoil. Fastball was 78-80 mph, touching 83 mph, with varying run and cut action and occasional life. Breaking ball was inconsistent, flashed two above avg., with 11/5 shape. Cut action on changeup with occasional split type drop in zone.

Adam Brauch, SS/RHP, Dowling Catholic, 2020
6-foot, 160-pound right-handed hitting 2-way player. 7.16 runner. Spread stance with body and shoulder load, lift in swing plane, consistently barrels baseball, spray line drive and fly ball contact with mid/pull approach, 89 mph exit velocity. Sure hands with quick exchange, some stiffness to field, works through baseball, has accurate arm to bag, 78 mph arm strength across infield. On mound; rocker step into medium balance point, short stride down mound, and lands slightly across body. Pie arm action, easy effort throwing consistent strikes, with a 76-78 mph fastball. Flashes sharp break on tight spinning 11/5 curveball. Developing changeup; currently left short of plate.

Quincy Collier, C/RHP, Davis County, 2018
5-foot-9, 145-pound right-handed hitting 2-way player. 7.21 runner. Balanced setup, longer stride, compact swing, short to contact, consistent line drive and fly ball contact, mid/pull approach, 75 mph exit velocity. Quiet and relaxed behind plate, soft hands, avg. direction with feet, short exchange with quick release, accurate to bag, 75 mph arm strength with 2.19-2.26 pop times. On mound; rocker step into high knee balance point, lands inline with catcher, has solid extension and finish. Clean compact arm action producing 79-81 mph fastball with straight action. Lands solid breaking ball well, with 11/5 shape, and depth. Flashes solid action on changeup, occasionally firm, causing pitch to flatten out.

Bryce Crabb, SS/RHP, Des Moines East, 2019
6-foot-3, 160-pound right-handed hitting 2-way player. 7.4 runner. Open stance with early rhythm, solid bat speed, barrel exit hitting zone early, pull approach, flashes hard contact, should make strides offensively with minor tweaks, 84 mph exit velocity. Shows range in the field, solid athlete, developing footwork, sure hands, accurate throws to bag, 77 mph arm strength across infield. On mound; uptempo into short balance point, lands inline with catcher, with extension and finish to plate. Long side-ways arm action, low ¾ arm slot, and shows above avg. command of 77-81 mph fastball. Curveball has 11/5 shape with solid depth. Solid changeup with  late cut and down action.

Jace Davidson, LHP, Pocahontas, 2019
6-foot-2, 180-pound left-handed pitcher. #54 ranked player in IA 2019 class. Side step, high knee balance point, uptempo delivery, lands slightly across body, with extension over collapsed front knee. Short arm action, clean out front, producing 79-80 mph fastball delivered on downhill plane with running action. Shows ability to land 1/7 curveball with tight spin, small shape, and short break at plate. Changeup needs to continue to develop; currently inconsistent and hard.

Keaton Duckett, RHP, Johnston, 2018
6-foot-1, 172-pound right-handed pitcher. #43 ranked prospect in IA 2018 class and Southeastern CC (IA) commit. Open setup in strength, crouched tuck and turn at balance point, lands across body with pie arm action. Fastball has life with running action at 86-88 mph. 11/5 breaking showed inconsistent shape and spin to plate. Flashed above avg. run and sink on changeup.

Dalton Hagist, RHP/3B, Waukee, 2019
6-foot-2, 190-pound right-handed hitting 2-way player. On mound; shows rhythm and tempo to delivery, taller tuck and turn at balance point, lands across body, with extension over collapsed front leg. Fastball was 76-78 mph, with varying action, delivered from high ¾ slot. Inconsistent shape on breaking ball with flat action to plate. Changeup is thrown with stiff wrist; occasionally showing solid fade. 7.2 runner. Square stance, body load, leg kick trigger, collapses lower half, flashes strength in swing, gap to gap approach with spray contact, 85 mph exit velocity. Heavier feet, avg. glove and footwork, accurate to bag, 74 mph arm strength across infield.

Michael Hart, OF/RHP, Gilbert, 2018
6-foot-1, 205-pound right-handed hitting 2-way player. 7.12 runner. Open stance, present strength, solid bat speed, slight arm bar in load, lift in swing plane, flashes hard spray contact across field, 88 mph exit velocity. Fields with two hands, effects balance, direction and momentum, one-piece arm action, makes accurate throws to target with avg. carry, 79 mph arm strength from outfield. On mound; deliberate delivery, stab and wrap on back-side of arm action, landing inline to plate with finish. Fastball showed varying action, mostly cut, at 70-72 mph. Early break on 11/5 curveball with loose spin. Flat action on changeup for strikes.

Trey Jacobson, SS/RHP, Estherville, 2018
6-foot, 165-pound right-handed hitting 2-way player. #96 ranked player in IA 2018 class; will make jump up rankings once updated. 6.95 runner. Athletic crouched stance, deep load, aggressive swing, linear actions through baseball, consistent hard contact with gap to gap approach, 90 mph exit velocity. Solid athleticism in field, sure hands, works through baseball, has accuracy and carry to bag, 86 mph arm strength across infield. On mound; compact athletic delivery, lands across body, short arm action, with solid arm speed. Above avg. ability to command fastball, throwing 82-83 mph, with flashes of late running action. Solid depth on 11/5 breaking ball that he lands consistently in zone. Developing changeup that currently is firm with flat action.

Easton Johnson, C/RHP, Gilbert, 2021
6-foot-2, 160-pound right-handed hitting 2-way player. 7.76 runner. Slightly crouched athletic setup, active hand rhythm disrupts timing occasionally, long levers with extension through contact, mid/away approach, spray contact, 81 mph exit velocity. Has momentum and direction through plate, clean exchanges, repeatable arm action, quiet and relaxed receiving breaking balls, avg. blocker, 72 mph arm strength with 2.09-2.2 pop times. On mound; high knee to balance point with body control, lands slightly open to plate, with short 2-piece arm action. Fastball was 75-77 mph with flashes of late run and sink. Wraps 11/5 breaking ball early with avg. command of zone. Rolls hand over changeup creating solid fade and sink.

Drew Logel, 1B/RHP, Muscatine, 2019
6-foot-3, 207-pound right-handed hitting 2-way player. Larger physical build. 7.58 runner. Shows present strength, open stance, leg kick trigger, hands tend to leak down, line drive swing plane with lift through contact, flashes pop in bat, gap to gap approach, 91 mph exit velocity. Active feet in field, sure hands, moves well around bag, receives well, short arm action producing accurate throws, 74 mph arm strength across infield. On mound; rocker step into tall tuck and turn delivery, swings down mound and lands open to plate, high glove side creates deception, with finish to plate. Fastball was 80-81 mph, touching 83 mph, with flashes of late life and running action. Wraps breaking ball early; has solid depth on 11/5 curveball with ability to land for strikes. Average command and feel for changeup with flat action.

Noah Miller, OF/RHP, Chaska (MN), 2018
6-foot, 170-pound right-handed hitting 2-way player. 7.66 runner. Tall stance, leg kick trigger, shows loose hands, clean bat path through contact, solid gap to gap approach, spray contact with flashes of pop in bat, 91 mph exit velocity. Moves well in outfield, appropriate footwork, easy defensive actions, short arm action, solid accuracy with avg. carry to target, 78 mph arm strength from outfield. On mound; rocker step into high tuck and turn delivery, lands with closed front foot, and has extension to plate over collapsed front knee. Long clean arm action producing 75-78 mph fastball, delivered on downhill plane, with straight action. Tight spin on 11/5 curveball with small short break at plate. Changeup is inconsistent around zone; arm works enough and should be able to develop pitch.

Will Moritz, RHP/SS, WDM Valley, 2018
6-foot-1, 155-pound right-handed hitting 2-way player. #55 ranked player in IA 2018 class. High knee to balance point with rhythm and tempo, strides across body hiding baseball, and creating tilt to the hitter. Clean compact arm action with above avg. command of the zone; fastball was 84-86 mph. Shows ability to consistently land 11/5 breaking ball for strikes. Changeup is firm but has late down action with occasional cut. 7.01 runner. Balanced athletic stance, shoulder load, line drive swing plane with extension through contact, mid/pull approach, consistent hard line drive contact, 91 mph exit velocity. Light on his feet, shows good range, sure hands, works through baseball, has accuracy and carry to bag, 79 mph arm strength across infield.

Augie Muenzenmay, SS/RHP, Waukee, 2019
5-foot-11, 150-pound right-handed hitting 2-way player. 6.98 runner. Easy rhythm and shoulder load, lift in swing plane, loses posture at contact, mid/pull approach, consistent hard line drive and ground ball contact, 87 mph exit velocity. Developing footwork and actions in field, sure hands, shows ability to play through baseball, avg./ok accuracy to bag, long release on throws, 73 mph arm strength across infield. On mound; rocker step with controlled delivery, slight crouch at balance point, 2-piece arm action with long draw on back-side. Fastball was 77-80 mph, tilted plane, with varying action to plate. Above avg. breaking ball with tight spin and late sweeping break thrown consistently for strikes. Changeup is firm and flat; elevated in the zone.

Brady Nicolet, SS/RHP, Dallas Center-Grimes, 2019
6-foot-2, 175-pound right-handed hitting 2-way player. 7.38 runner. Easy rhythm and shoulder load, short to contact with lift in bat plane, wiry strong, consistent hard contact, gap to gap approach, 86 mph exit velocity. Above avg. arm, raw mechanically, sits to field, some stiffness to glove, 82 mph arm across infield. On mound; side step into controlled balance point, lands across body, shows extension to plate over collapsed front knee. Easy arm action producing 77-80 mph fastballs with varying action. Solid ability to land breaking ball with quality 11/5 shape and spin. Avg. command and feel for changeup; left short of plate.

Evan Paulus, 3B/RHP, Mason City Newman, 2019
5-foot-10, 230-pound right-handed hitting 2-way player. #14 ranked player in IA 2019 class. 7.82 runner. Body load with leg trigger, initiates swing with shoulder turn, clean path through contact, well above avg. bat speed, shows true power potential, routinely squares baseball with loud contact, 96 mph exit velocity. Shows footwork and soft hands, moves well for size, plays plays well with accuracy and carry to bag, 86 mph arm across infield. On mound; controlled delivery, adds tempo, tuck and turn balance point, and lands across body. Short arm action producing 81-84 mph fastballs, straight action, on slight downhill plane. Above avg. ability to land breaking ball, thrown with conviction, and has tight 11/5 spin. Tends to guide changeup; still flashes late down action with firm velocity.

Michael Radford, RHP/SS, Glenwood, 2019
5-foot-11, 145-pound switch-hitting 2-way player. On mound; rocker step into high leg kick delivery, shows body control and rhythm, land in-line with catcher, and has extension to plate. Long clean arm action producing 73-75 mph fastballs, consistently throws strikes, with avg. life. Consistently lands 11/5 breaking ball for strikes and has cut action on solid changeup. 7.83 runner. Similar hitting mechanics from both sides, shows better ability and approach from right-side, spray contact, 75 mph exit velocity. Average actions in field, hands are stiff occasionally, makes routine plays, average accuracy to bag, 72 mph arm across infield.
