3A No. 2 South Bend St. Josephs Rolls to 24-1 Win

ELKHART – The No. 2 ranked, South Bend St. Joseph’s, jumped out to an early lead against Concord on Tuesday night and did not look back. They scored in every at bat en route to a five inning 24-1 win, improving them to 8-1 on the season.

The scoring got started early in the first after they loaded the bases with no outs. Junior Matt Potter drove a ball off the right center field fence for a three run double and the rout was on. St. Joes added one more in the inning with an Oliver Page RBI groundout.

In the second three more runs came across the plate to extend the lead to 7-1. The first came on a first and third double steal, allowing Andrew Petsche to score on the throw to second. An error brought Wesley Short in and Page picked up his second RBI in as many innings with a single to center.

In the third Riley Stesiak scored from second on an error and Tyler Beck ripped a line drive into left field for another run pushing the lead to 9-1.

The game got really out of hand in the fourth inning when St. Joes sent 14 batters to the plate, scoring nine runs. Every starter reached base and scored in the inning. Five players had RBI singles: Petsche, Beck, Dillon Bond, Connor Gentry, and Zach Amico. After the inning St. Joes lead 18-1.

In the fifth St. Joes added six more runs to push the score to 24-1. Stesiak drove in two runs with a single and Short had his third single of the game for another run.

James Whiteman got the win on the mound allowing just one run over four innings. He allowed a run in the first after a leadoff walk. A two out double in the first was the only hit he surrendered, striking out four in the game. In the fourth he loaded the bases with no outs, but struck out the side to end the inning.
