Unsigned Senior Showcase: Catchers Analysis

By Blake Hibler
PBR Indiana Scouting Director

Garrett Pferrer, C, Carmel HS, 2014- Garrett possesses a strong frame at 5-foot-9 190 pounds.  He has high academics. Pferrer  was 72 from the crouch and showed a 2.14-2.2 pop time. Pferrer showed average receiving skill with sound throwing mechanics.  At the plate, showcased pull power. The bat speed is average so he uses his physical strength to hit. Finishes two handed with good balance. Timing looked to be a little inconsistent.

Joe Wilson, C, Springs Valley, 2014- Wilson is a strong bodied 6-foot, 200 pound catcher. He was 72mph from the crouch and threw 2.4-2.58 pop times. At the plate Wilson works uphill from a crouch. Drops hands within load and shows a leg kick. Good balance with average batspeed. Wilson’s best tool is his bat.

Kalib Clark, C, Plainfield HS, 2016
- Clark is a 5-foot-9 155 pound catcher with athleticism behind the plate. Clark’s good exchange produced an event best 1.98 pop time. Clark also showed arm strength topping out at 77mph behind the plate.  He has room to get even better behind the plate as he matures. At the plate is a line drive hitter, consistently making solid contact.  Possesses good hand eye coordination. Possesses some quickness in his swings and should hit for a high average. He will have to add strength to be a power threat at the next level.

Cameron Pferrer, RHP/C, Carmel HS, 2017 - Cameron is a 5-foot-9 155 pound catcher with a frame that is still developing. His greatest tool is behind the plate. Good arm speed with a whip that produced 2.0-2.12 pop times. As he cleans up the footwork Pferrer has a chance to be a high end catch and throw guy in the future. Receiving skills are still raw and will continue to develop with time.  At the plate, Pferrerr possesses good hand speed and hits from a crouch. The righty shows good balance, but mechanically still needs to be cleaned up. Cameron is a high follow in the 2017 class.
