Inside the Recruitment: 2017 SS Isaiah Davis Commits to Vincennes

By Phil Wade

Indiana Executive Director

Ben Davis HS senior SS, Isaiah Davis, recently committed to Vincennes.

PBR: Ultimately, why did you choose to commit to Vincennes?

Davis: I like the coaching staff.  The way they run their program, I feel it's a good match to help develop my skills to move on to the next level.

PBR: Where did they first see you compete?

Davis: I believe the first time they saw me was at a baseball camp at USI.

PBR: What other schools were you considering?

Davis: Indiana Tech, Kankakee CC, UIndy and Anderson University.

PBR: What were your expectations about the recruiting process? Was it as expected? Easy/Difficult?

Davis: I really didn't know what to expect in the recruiting process.  It wasn't too difficult, but I did have to learn how to talk to the coaches.

PBR: What were you looking for out of a college program to continue your baseball career after HS?

Davis: A program that plays a competitive schedule, coaches that will challenge me and a program that will help develop my skills to continue on to the next level.

PBR: When did the recruiting process really start to heat up for you?  Was there a particular game or event you feel turned the corner for you?

Davis: The summer after my junior year.  I can't say that there was a particular game or event, it was more of the whole summer exposure that helped me get seen.

PBR: At what point did you realize you were a college caliber player and become serious about taking your game to the next level?

Davis: I always felt that I could play at that level, so I have always worked hard to get to that point.

PBR: Who is the best player you have faced in Indiana, and why?

Davis: Nolan Watson because of his 90+ MPH fastball which I got a triple off of, and fellow teammate Logan Butrum because he's a bull dog on the mound and has that intimidation factor.

PBR: What advice would you give young baseball players striving to get where you are at?

Davis: No days off, work as hard in the classroom as you do on the practice field. Never lose your love for the game.

PBR: What is the most memorable moment in your baseball career to this point?

Davis: Winning the Little League 12U District Title.

PBR: Preview your high school season for us.  How do you feel your team will be?  What are your expectations and goals?

Davis: I feel we have the potential to go a long way.  We have good senior leadership, a strong pitching staff and the hunger and desire to win.  The goal is to win the final game at Victory Field.

PBR: Who do you play for in the summer?  What has been your most memorable experience with them?

Davis: Indy Predators, and all the fun I had in the hotels with my teammates!
