2015 No. 21 Cody Mobley Discusses his Commitment to Evansville

Mount Vernon High School (South) right-handed pitcher Cody Mobley recently made his commitment to attend the University of Evansville and play for Head Coach Wes Carroll.  The No. 21 ranked prospect in Indiana's class of 2015 attended the 2015 Underclass Preview last October as an unknown to the PBR Indiana staff, but left the event having established himself as a top right-handed arm in an already deep pitching class.  

Mobley was impressive at the Underclass Preview in Indianapolis topping out at 87 mph with his fastball. He also showcased an above average curveball with tight rotation and good depth that was consistently in the zone.  

PBR: Ultimately, why did you choose Evansville?

Mobley: Before I start I would like to thank Evansville Razorback Coach Jeremy Johnson for giving me the opportunity to showcase my skills this past fall and for all the time he has spent talking with college coaches about me. There were many reasons why I chose Evansville and it starts with Coach Carroll. I felt like I connected with Coach Carroll and his staff during my visits with them. UE is well known as an excellent University and they play in one of the best conferences in the country. It was also important to me to have an opportunity to come in and contribute from day one, and after reviewing the offer that Coach Carroll gave me there was no doubt that Coach expects me to be a big contributor right away. There is also nothing like being able to play D1 baseball 30 minutes from home where all of my family and friends can see a lot of my games.  I could also be a 3rd generation UE graduate in my family.  UE is a perfect fit for me!

PBR: Where did Evansville first see you compete?

Mobley: The first time that Coach Carroll saw me throw was online at the PBR showcase that I attended in October in Indy. He also got to see me throw live at a showcase in Evansville in January.

PBR: What other schools were you considering?

Mobley: There were several schools that wanted to see me throw this spring/summer, some I had direct contact with and others I did not. I had direct contact with Murray St, Middle Tennessee St, and Morehead St. and there were many emails exchanged with other schools wanting my spring/summer schedules. 

PBR: What do the coaches expect from you when you first arrive on campus?

Mobley: The coaching staff expects me to come in and compete for a starting position. It is up to me to work hard and put myself in position to make that happen.

PBR: Who has had the biggest impact on you as a baseball player?

Mobley: Both my Mom and Dad have made a huge impact on my baseball career! They are always willing to go out if their way to do whatever I need. My dad has spent countless hours working with me to be the best that I can be.

PBR: What have been your goals regarding baseball this off-season?

Mobley: My main focus is to get stronger and build up my core and make myself the best player possible.

PBR: What are your goals individually and team wise heading into this spring?

Mobley: I need to be pitch efficient and help my team win as many games as possible. 

PBR: What is your fondest baseball memory to date?

Mobley: Winning the BPA World Series with the Southern Indiana Spikes is one of my best memories

PBR: Who is the toughest hitter/pitcher you've faced in Indiana?

Mobley: My ex-teammates Troy Paris and Drake McNamara are the toughest hitters that I have pitched against, while Ryan Dils is the toughest pitcher that I have batted against.
