Q&A with Cincinnati Commit, Tre Gantt (Hamilton Southeastern HS)

PBR: Why did you choose Cincinatti?

Gantt:  I chose Cincinnati because I really enjoyed the campus and facilities. Also, I felt very comfortable talking with the coaching staff.

PBR: Where did Cincinnati first see you compete?

Gantt:  Cincinnati saw me at their first camp this fall. A couple weeks later, Coach Heilmann attended one of my fall league games in Pendleton, IN.

PBR: What other schools did you consider?

Gantt:  I considered Coastal Carolina, Ball State and Indiana.

PBR: What role do the coaches expect you to play during your first year on campus?

Gantt:  The coaching staff said they expect me to compete and to have the opportunity to contribute to the success of the team as a Freshman.

PBR: What team do you play for in the summer and what was your most memorable experience during summer ball?

Gantt:  During the summer I play for the Indiana Prospects. I had a blast playing ball last summer, so I have many memorable moments. As a team, our most memorable moment was winning the East Cobb Invitational Tournament. Individually, my most memorable moments were being clocked at 6.66 seconds in the 60 at a tournament and hitting a walk off grand slam.

PBR: Who has had the biggest impact on you as a baseball player?

Gantt:  My father has had the biggest impact on me. He reminds me that I should never be satisfied and need to always work hard to make myself better.

PBR: Heading into your junior year at HSE, what are your goals individually and as a team?

Gantt:  Our goal as a team is always to win the conference title and state title. I want to be the leader my teammates can count on to do whatever is needed to help the team win game after game.

PBR: How have things changed under your new coach?

Gantt:  Coach Henson coached the JV Team last year, so we are all very familiar with him. He definitely knows what he's talking about and we are all looking forwarding to playing for him and feel he is moving the team in the right direction.

PBR: What aspect of your game do you believe needs the most improvement?

Gantt:   I feel I am a five tool player and want to prove that. I have been working hard in the gym and have gained over 10 lbs since last spring. Though I have gotten bigger, stronger and faster, I would really like to get even faster so I can have a lot more stolen bases than I did last year.

PBR: What were your stats this past HS Season/ summer?

Gantt:  Summer stats: Games-41; PA-142; AB-122; R-29; 1B-27; 2B-7; 3B-7; HR-2; RBI-35; SO-22; SB-18; OBP-.431; SLG-.590; OPS-1.021; AVE-.369

PBR: Have you decided on a major, or narrowed it down?

Gantt:  I have not decided on a major yet.
