Franklin Central 7, New Palestine 4

The Franklin Central Flashes took the lead early and held back New Palestine in the opening game of the Whiteland 4A Sectional Wednesday night. Kevin Hammond picked up the win with teammate Jimmy Yates in support at the plate.
Yates got the team rolling early with a homerun and double driving in 2 runs on the evening.
Franklin Central will play Center Grove in Round 2 of the Sectional.

Center Grove 9, Greenwood 7

Center Grove overcame a one run deficit in the top of the seventh to beat county and city rival Greenwood on the opening day of Sectional play.

The Woodman had won the two previous contests this season, but were unable to come up with a shutdown inning when it mattered most.
Down 6-7 going into the final frame, Center Grove might have been helped by a short rain delay that allowed them to focus on the task at hand. Nathaniel Coy had a two-out RBI single that gave the Trojans an 8-7 lead. Standout out SS/P Jay Prior followed with an RBI single that did not leave the infield.

Prior picked up the win on the mound after striking out the only batter he faced in the sixth and shutting the door in the seventh.

Center Grove will move on to face Franklin Central in Round 2 of the tournament on Monday.
