Fall Prospect Games at St. Catharine College: Team White Pitcher Analysis

By Chris Fuller
Kentucky Scouting Director

The Fall Prospect Games event took place on October 11 at St. Catharine College and afforded players from around the state the opportunity to showcase their abilities in a combination showcase/game play event. The event saw some returning performers looking to build on previous events but also included many young players being seen for the first time who left good impressions with our staff.

The following is a look at the pitchers from Team White from the event. This is pitcher analysis only. Those pitchers who also participated as a position player at the event had their position player performance featured in a previous article.

Aaron Blake, RHP/3B, Christian Academy of Louisville, 2017
5-foot-11, 175-pound RHP showed a slight increase in velocity from summer event, uses long arm action through a high-3/4 slot, regular effort with good tempo, throws a heavy fastball that sat 78-81 mph topping at 82 with good late arm-side run and sink, shows good feel for 67-69 mph curveball with solid 11/5 action, stuck with the two-pitch mix and allowed three hits, no walks, and struck out one (looking on CB) in his two innings of work.

Kameron Conley, RHP/3B, Perry County Central HS, 2017
6-foot-1, 221-pound RHP uses short arm action and works through a high-3/4 slot, opens hips early at times and lands open, arm shows some quickness, fastball sat 79-80 mph with some arm-side run, works the bottom part of the zone well with the fastball, flashed one of the better curveballs of the event that sat 65-69 mph with tight spin and sharp 11/5 action, threw two hitless innings while walking two and striking out three (two swinging on CB’s). Conley has shown more velocity in the past.

Tyler Wagner, SS/RHP, Beechwood HS, 2019
6-foot-1, 150-pound RHP with projectable build, uses shorter arm action through a high-3/4 slot, regular effort in delivery, effectively pounds the bottom part of the strike zone with all pitches, fastball sat 73-75 mph with occasional arm-side run, good feel for 63-64 mph curveball with 11/5 action, shows confidence in 64-66 mph changeup with sink and fade, worked an efficient inning with two strikeouts (both swinging on FB&CB) and a ground out, young prospect with very good pitchability.

Samuel Craddock, RHP, Conner HS, 2017
6-foot-1, 230-pound RHP uses long arm action and works through a high-3/4 slot, regular effort in delivery, pounds the strike zone and works both sides of the plate effectively, fastball shows occasional slight arm-side run at 73-76 mph topping at 77, shows good feel for 61-62 mph curveball with gradual 11/5 action and some depth, threw a changeup in warmups only that showed some cutting action, allowed two hits and struck out three (two swinging on FB, one swinging on CB) in his two innings of work.

Chase Robinson, OF/RHP, Madison Southern HS, 2017
6-foot-1, 165-pound RHP uses shorter arm action and works mostly through a high-3/4 slot, occasionally throws slightly across body, will drop down occasionally to throw a sidearm fastball, 74-77 mph fastball topped at 78 and shows occasional sinking action, changes speeds on 60-65 mph curveball that shows some depth and 11/5 action, also throws a 65-67 mph knuckle ball, allowed three hits and walked two with one strikeout (swinging on FB) in his one inning of work.

Devon Hart, RHP/3B, Lafayette HS, 2018
6-foot-1,135-pound RHP with significant room to add to slender frame, uses long arm action through a ¾ to high-3/4 slot, over the head windup, deliberate delivery with minimal effort, fastball sat 71-74 mph with occasional arm-side run and sink, 60-62mph curveball shows gradual 11/5 action, throws a solid 66 mph changeup with good arm speed and late fade through the zone, consistently throws strikes, got in trouble a few times when he elevated the fastball but produced ground ball outs with the sinking action down in the zone, allowed four hits and struck out one (swinging on CB) in his two innings of work.

Grant Noffsinger, LHP, Lexington Catholic HS, 2016
6-foot-4, 190-pound LHP uses long arm action through a high-3/4 slot, minimal effort in delivery, lands open at times and tends to miss up in the zone to his arm side, fastball sat 70-73 mph touching 75 on one occasion with occasional cutting action, tends to miss up in the zone with 57-61 mph curveball with gradual 1/7 action, allowed two hits, walked four, and struck out one in his two innings of work, has some potential to add velocity with some refinement of mechanics.

Neal Hancock, RHP/1B, Male HS, 2016
5-foot-11, 184-pound RHP uses short arm action through an over the top arm slot, shows some effort in delivery, struggled with overall command early but settled in, fastball sat 71-74 mph topping at 75, threw one 65 mph curveball that flashed some depth with 12/6 action, allowed one hit and walked four in his one inning of work.
