Tyler Grigalis, C, Lexington Catholic HS, 2018

Grigalis is a 5-foot-8, 160-pound, left-handed hitting catcher who established himself as a promising young prospect in the Bluegrass State’s 2018 class.

At the plate, Grigalis hits from a slightly open stance and gets to square with a short stride.  He displays a quiet approach with very little wasted movement and a direct swing path to the baseball.  Grigalis maintains good balance throughout his swing while showing good extension through contact.  He consistently barreled the baseball in batting practice at the Fall Prospect Games event in October and went 1-for-3 in game play with a single up the middle.

Defensively, Grigalis is mechanically sound behind the plate with solid footwork and a quick transfer.  His short high-3/4 release and 69 mph arm strength produced 2.06-2.15 pop times with most throws accurate to the second base bag.  The freshman will undoubtedly continue to see gains in arm strength moving forward which should equate to an improvement in pop times, which are already good for his age.

Left-handed hitting catchers are always a commodity, and Grigalis is certainly one to keep a close eye on in the 2018 class.  It will be interesting to watch him develop over the next few years.
