Preseason All-State Showcase: Class of 2016 Corner Infielders

Last Saturday, February 14, more than 100 players from all corners of the state convened at Champions Baseball Academy in Nicholasville for the third annual Preseason All-State Showcase. Over the coming days we will continue to take a look at all players who participated in the event.

Below we take a look at the Class of 2016 corner infielders who were in attendance. This is position player analysis only. Those players who also pitched at the event will have their pitching performance featured in a separate article.

Trevor Howard, 3B, R/R, Southwestern HS, 2016
6-foot-3, 210-pound prospect showcased his elite bat speed and power at the event. Right-handed hitter broke PBR Kentucky exit velocity record at 102 mph. Hits from a slightly open stance, mid-length stride, generates explosive bat speed while maintaining balance, ball jumps off of bat with carry, big power for high school hitter, ran a 7.40 60-yard dash. Defensively, shows athletic corner actions, moves well, plenty of arm strength at 86 mph across the infield, middle-of-the order bat at the next level with the ability to play either corner infield spot.

CJ Bush, 1B/3B, R/R, Lexington Catholic HS, 2016
6-foot-1, 210-pound prospect showed his combination of power and athleticism, right-handed hitter hits from a balanced stance, short stride, has quieted down his pre-pitch hand movement, explode with lower half, good extension through contact, legitimate power threat at the plate, showed his ability to generate bat speed with 97 mph exit velocity, surprising speed for size with 6.94 60-yard dash. Defensively, participated at both corner infield spots, moves well, 81 mph arm strength across the infield, potential middle-of-the-order bat at the next level.

Colin Enlow, 3B, R/R, Woodford County HS, 2016
5-foot-11, 210-pound prospect has added 15 pounds to strong frame since last winter, right-handed hitter took an impressive round of batting practice showing good power, hits from a balanced stance, leg kick trigger with a short stride, uses strong lower half well, had one of the top exit velocities of the event at 94 mph, good corner speed with 6.97 60-yard dash. Defensively, shows soft hands, good lateral movement, accurate arm with over the top release, 76 mph velocity across the infield, good combination of size, power, and athleticism.

Jake Ziegelmeyer, RHP/1B/, R/R, Ryle HS, 2016
6-foot-3, 205-pound prospect, right-handed hitter hits from a balanced stance, short stride, aggressive approach at the plate, swing generates some lift, good bat speed and shows power potential, shorter swing with good extension through contact, showed his ability to generate bat speed with 92 mph exit velocity, ran 7.64 60-yard dash. Defensively, athletic first baseman, moves well with good footwork, good arm strength at 84 mph across the infield, good combination of size and athleticism.

Landon Arflack, 1B, L/R, Western Hills, HS, 2016
6-foot-4, 215-pound prospect  with strong and athletic frame, left-handed hitter hits from a slightly open stance, gets square with a toe tap and short stride, short swing path with extension through contact, uses strong lower half, pull approach with some power, ran 7.71 60-yard dash, 83 mph exit velocity, interesting left-handed hitter with power potential. Defensively, shows soft hands, moves well with solid footwork around the bag, 78 mph arm strength across the infield.

Logan Holland, 1B/3B, R/R, Lafayette HS, 2016
6-foot, 165-pound prospect showed a significant increase in all measurables at the event. Right-handed hitter hits from an open stance and squares front side with a short stride, maintains good balance, level swing path, line drive type hitter with gap to gap approach, showed beast exit velocity to date at 82 mph (79 previous event), showed improved speed with 7.19 60-yard dash (7.46 last summer). Defensively, participated at both corner infield spots, shows good athleticism and moves well at first base, athletic corner actions at third base, soft hands, good body control and ability to throw on the move accurately, improved 77 mph velocity across the infield, continues to make noticeable improvements in his game.

Chris Brown, RHP/3B, R/R, Allen County Scottsville HS, 2016
5-foot-11, 185-pound prospect, right-handed hitter hits from an open stance, gets to square with a long stride, uses lower half torque to generate bat speed, shows some lift in swing, flashes power to the pull side, showed big increase in exit velocity from previous event at 86 mph, ran a 7.46 60-yard dash. Defensively, participated as a 3B and OF. In the infield, shows playable hands, good lateral movement, short high ¾ release, 80 mph arm strength across the infield.

Cam Dacci, 3B, R/R, Henry Clay HS, 2016
6-foot-1, 170-pound prospect, right-handed hitter hits from a balanced stance with a short stride, good balance, has some pre-pitch hand movement, loads up on backside, line drive type hitter, showed an increase in bat speed with 84 mph exit velocity (82 previous event). Defensively, shows athletic corner actions, soft hands and good lateral movement, gets rid of the ball quickly, high-3/4 release with 76 mph velocity across the infield.

Rick McGraw, 3B/RHP, R/R, Christian County HS, 2016
5-foot-9, 155-pound prospect, right-handed hitter hits from a slightly open stance, uses a toe tap with a short stride, line drive type hitter, gets close to arm bar, slight uphill swing path, cuts off finish at times, stays balanced throughout swing, ran 7.50 60-yard dash, 83 mph exit velocity. Defensively, shows playable hands, good lateral movement, long high-3/4 release, 74 mph velocity across the infield, accurate throws to first base.

Ben Kopriva, 3B, R/R, Trinity HS, 2016
6-foot, 178-pound prospect, right-handed hitter hits from a narrow stance, long stride, level swing plane, line drive type hitter, showed better timing at this event and hit several line drives in his round of batting practice working the middle of the field well, ran a 7.10 60-yard dash, 79 mph exit velocity. Defensively, shows solid footwork and lateral movement, playable hands, 76 mph velocity across the infield from short high-3/4 release.
