The Hotlist: Unsigned Senior Catchers

By Nathan Rode and PBR Staff

Last week, we started looking at some unsigned seniors that represent a particular commodity. First, it was left-handed pitching. This week, we look at the other half of the battery with 2015 catchers still looking to commit to a college.

Willie Burger, C, Lancaster Catholic HS, PA
Burger is a strong-bodied catcher and projects to hit for power with his short swing path and bat speed. The 6-foot-1, 210-pounder had 34 extra-base hits over the course of two seasons with Lancaster Catholic, providing some offense at a premium position. He played the corner infield spots on much of the showcase circuit this summer, but has some ability behind the plate. He receives well and can record sub-2.0 pop times. He started playing varsity baseball as an eighth grader in Connecticut so he has exhausted his eligibility under Pennsylvania rules. He will finish the fall semester at Lancaster Catholic before attending IMG Academy in Florida to play in the spring.
