champions

PBR Kentucky

The 2016 PBR Kentucky Unsigned Senior Games were held on Sunday, October 2 at Beechwood High School and brought some of the most talented uncommitted 2017 graduates together in one place.  Below are the evaluations from each of the pitchers that competed in the event for the Royal Team.

Ethan Doty, RHP/1B, Highlands, 2017
Max FB: 88, FB: 83-86, CB: 70-73, CH: 75-77,
5-foot-11, 195-pound, RHP has a strong and stocky build with athleticism and a sense of confidence on the mound, uses a high leg lift and a bigger shoulder tilt to get loaded before heading home, leads with his front hip, strides in line and lands square with an athletic finish, long arm action comes through a high ¾ slot with only a little effort at the end, clean arm.  Fastball seemed heavy with some occasional run, curveball had sharp break with 11/5 shape through the zone, changeup showed sink and fade at the plate and was thrown with good arm action. Recorded 4 strikeouts without allowing a hit in his 2 innings of work. Committed to Otterbein College following the event.

Price Adams, RHP, Trinity, 2017
Max FB: 85, FB: 80-84, CB: 66-69,
6-foot-0, 165-pound, RHP is fairly athletic on the mound and uses his lanky frame to his advantage, consistent rhythm through his delivery and stays balanced throughout, longer arm action comes through a high ¾ slot and stays fairly loose, strides in line and finishes with regular effort and square to the plate. Fastball and curveball were both thrown for strikes as we saw 11/5 shape on the latter. Impressive outing included 4 strikeouts in his 2 innings, while allowing 1 hit and 2 walks. Adams continues to improve each time we see him as both his pitchability and velocity continue to climb.

Noah Thompson, LHP/1B, Louisville Male, 2017
Max FB: 83, FB: 81-83, CB: 66-67, CH: 67-68,
6-foot-0, 190-pound, LHP has a solid build and shows athletic movements on the mound that comes largely in part to his 2-way ability, hands come down and back up with a smooth leg lift and rhythm, stride toward the plate is mostly in line, long and loose arm action comes through a high ¾ release point with pretty regular effort, finishes athletically and stays well balanced and under control throughout his delivery.  Pounded the zone with his fastball that showed occasional run, breaking ball had 1/7 shape through the zone, changeup stayed mostly straight but was a good change of pace, Thompson works quick with good tempo.

Dalton Shoemake, LHP, Glasgow, 2017
Max FB: 83, FB: 79-82, CB: 65-67, CH: 78,
6-foot-0, 175-pound, LHP showed very much the same as we have seen him in almost all previous events, very consistent, low effort pitcher with a long arm action that stays loose throughout his delivery, high ¾ arm slot and a slightly closed stride toward the plate, finishes under control.  Fastball showed some run and was located well, curveball had 1/7 shape with some good depth, and his changeup showed slight run through the zone.  Recorded 3 strikeouts and allowed 3 singles in his 2 innings of work. Committed to Wabash Valley JC after the event.

Evan Hall, RHP, Tates Creek, 2017
Max FB: 83, FB: 78-83, CB: 69-72, CH: 76
6-foot-2, 170-pound, RHP is well-built with good length and range and showed some very athletic movements on the mound, good rhythm and bounce with a high leg and hand lift at the top, gets down the mound in his stride that lands him slightly closed before release, long arm action comes very quickly through an over-the-top slot, smooth effort and finish.  Fastball was mostly straight but was thrown consistently for strikes, solid feel for a breaking ball that showed 11/5 shape, changeup is just a change of pace around 76.  Struck out 1 and walked 2 in his 2 innings of work.

Chase Robinson, OF/RHP, Madison Southern, 2017
Max FB: 82, FB: 79-81, CB: 64-68, CH: 73-74,
6-foot-2, 170-pound, RHP showed most of the same actions on the mound that we have seen from him at recent events, wiry build with some athleticism and a delivery with just a little bit of effort, long arm action and a high ¾ arm slot, strides in line and finishes well-balanced, explodes toward the plate at the end. Fastball seemed mostly straight, curveball had gradual movement with 11/5 shape, and his changeup had some cut with good arm action.  Recorded a strikeout while allowing two walks and a hit in his two scoreless innings.

Michael Lobred, 3B/RHP, Bullitt East, 2017
Max FB: 76, FB: 74-76, CB: 62-64, CH: 67,
6-foot-1, 200-pound, RHP showed a very controlled and repeatable delivery, fairly high leg lift brings up his hands and triggers a slight shoulder tilt before heading home, strides in line and uses a low effort delivery to stay balanced upon his follow through and finish, shorter arm action comes from over-the-top.  Fastball stayed mostly straight but was thrown for strikes, curveball showed some gradual 12/6 shape, changeup was a simple change of pace.  Lobred recorded 2 strikeouts and allowed a single in his only inning on the mound.

Chase Arehart, RHP/1B, Randall Cooper HS, 2017
Max FB: 70, FB: 67-70, CB: 58-59,
6-foot-5, 190-pound, RHP brings a big presence to the mound with a large and rangy frame, seemingly good projectability on the mound, starts with a smooth and under control motion, long arm action is a little slow, arm comes through a high ¾ slot without too much effort, strides in line and lands with good balance.  Fastball showed some occasional cut and his curveball had some gradual 11/5 action through the zone, didn’t throw a changeup in game play. Recorded a strikeout and allowed a hit.
