Its late June and summer baseball is in full swing. We have baseball going on around the state with several talented clubs competing in numerous tournaments to showcase their ability. In an effort to make sure that the entire state is covered, the PBR Louisiana staff has hit the road to see several players in action. Here are a few notes from early summer action highlighting a few top performers on the summer circuit beginning with position players.

Southern Miss recruit. Athletic left-handed hitting outfielder consistently shows the ability to defend in centerfield with instinctive reads and covering both gaps. Offensively, strung together several quality at bats. Everything looks right but did show some swing and miss which has been rare to this point. Expect this to be short lived as Casey has a track record of being a high contact guy.
Athletic middle infielder with above average defensive ability. Has been a high level defender since a young age. The biggest improvement we've seen this summer is a strength increase. Hitting from a simple, balanced setup, the right-handed hitter has shown the ability to drive the baseball to all fields with gap power. Above average runner and advanced athlete.
Texas A&M recruit. Tall, strong frame with the physical build of a tight-end. Outfielder that shows the ability to range around the outfield with advanced athleticism and flashes a strong, accurate arm. Right-handed hitter with big power potential. Tooled up! Hasn’t completely put it together but shows signs of being a real prospect moving forward.
Physical right-handed hitting infielder. Has played some shortstop this summer where some defensive flaws are exposed but shows his athleticism and arm strength across the infield. The bat is what we fall in love with. He was consistently on time with fastballs and showed the ability to stay on breaking balls with adjustability in the swing. Flashed pull side power potential with above average feel to hit.
Another athletic infielder that plays the game with physicality. Saw time at both right side infield positions. Has really shown the hit tool this summer. Flashed power potential on a homer to dead center off of a 91 mph fastball. Made adjustments versus different looks over the 3 game look. Intriguing bat with division 1 potential. Will be interesting to see where he lands.
Tulane recruit. Average height, compact build with advanced catch and throw tool. Bends well with a balanced, strong setup behind the dish. Clean transfers with advanced arm strength for his age with every pop time between 2.09-2.17 between innings. Flashed a balanced right-handed swing with solid bat speed and strength.
Average height, strong framed right-hand hitting catcher with some power projection. Solid defender behind the dish with enough versatility to possibly play a corner. Has flashed above average arm strength but would like to see the receive and exchange come along a little more. Saw 2.1-2.2 pop times that will get better as he settles back in behind the dish after the layoff. The bat seems to be on track. He stood in there with a balanced, strong base and put a couple of good swings on balls. Flashed average strength on a ball driven deep into the outfield.
Louisiana-Lafayette recruit. Long, rangy left-handed hitting outfielder looks to be in midseason form. Sprayed around line drives with a middle to backside approach and an athletic, loose swing. We’ve seen power potential in the past and look for it to return soon with the way he’s seeing the baseball early on this summer. Also played a strong right-field ranging around throughout the game and making a diving catch on a ball down the line to erase a scoring threat.
Long and strong with above average physicality in a 6-foot-4, 220-pound frame. High end athlete. Plays WR in football and has multiple offers to play college football. Athleticism plays in the outfield as he tracks it down with above average range and instinctive reads. Right-handed hitter hits from a wide, balanced setup using a simple stride and an on-plane path with with above average strength.
Athletic middle infielder with a rangy, projectable frame. Lots of room for added strength to increase power potential in a pure right-handed stroke. High-end defensive talent that can stick at shortstop. Lots to like in the swing with the ability be an impact offensive player as he adds strength.
2021 INF Reed Eason
Average height, athletic infielder with quality infield actions. Calm, efficient feet with smooth handles and clean exchanges. Loose, clean arm action with solid average arm strength and carry across the infield. Left-handed hitter with feel for the barrel. Banged out 3 hits in game one including a double and a triple where he showed an above average run tool.
Athletic left-handed hitting outfielder with an above average run tool. Has had a nice summer as the swing has shown improvements with flashes of elite bat speed with a high contact rate. Improved athleticism in the swing with looseness and gap strength.
Physical infielder with solid defensive ability. Profiles well at a corner infield position. Right-handed bat with real strength in the swing making lots of hard contact throughout this summer. Compact stroke with physicality and solid athleticism.
Physical left-handed hitting catcher with big power potential. Flashes big arm strength along with an advanced receiving skillset. Left-handed hitter with a balanced setup and simple swing mechanics into a physical stroke with pull side power and feel to hit.
