Hits: RHH. Starts in a tall and balanced stance, uses a modified and controlled leg lift load and stride, hands work up to down Whips the barrel through the zone with an on-plane path to the baseball and an uphill one-handed finish, stays balanced throughout his swing, showed ability to elevate, as well as increased strength, can drive the ball to all fields

Positional Profile: RHP.   

Delivery: Starts on 1B side of rubber and stays there.  Brings the ball down out of the glove with a long arm circle, releasing the ball from a high ¾ arm slot.  

Arm Action: High 3/4.  Long and whippy arm action with some effort.  

FB: 80-83 mph.  Avg. spin of 1906 RPM, Max spin of 1989 RPM

CB: Near “12-6” in shape with average spin and depth at 69-70 mp

Positional Profile: MIF

Body: Athletic, lean, and wiry 6’1” 155 lbs. frame with plenty of room to add strength.  

Hit: Starts in an athletic and balanced stance with hands held at shoulder height.  Simple load and stride to get back to center.  Shows present pull side power with more in the tank.  Effectively used his lower half with a flat bat path and uphill extension.  Squared up two balls during gameplay.

Power: Max exit velocity of 88 mph. 

Arm:  ¾ release.  Loose and whippy arm action. 85 mph positional velocity.

Defense:  Caught everything out front clean with a quiet glove.  Advanced infield actions and footwork.  Positions body to catch everything on the good hop.  Showed ability to move laterally and throw from different arm angles.  Made two nice plays during gameplay; one at SS and one at 2B.

Run: Recorded a 7.56 in the 60.

Thompson’s ability to slow the game down while playing fast stood out at the Future Games. The wiry-athletic, 6-foot-1, 160-pound shortstop has a frame that is sure to carry considerably more strength in the future, and given his aggressive approach and power potential, might ultimately shift him over to third base down the road. The right-handed hitter has a deeper load that includes a tilt of the barrel before quickly working uphill while creating torque with impressive rotational acceleration. The present gap-to-gap strength should quickly increase as his frame develops. On the infield, he is confident in his solid hands with an accurate arm and quicker release. The frame and tools leave lots to like about Thompson’s upside, and college coaches are likely to be closely monitoring his progressions in the future.

Dylan Thompson: SS, (2023) Sam Houston, LA. Slim frame. In the box, the  hitter recorded an exit velocity of 83 mph. Started in a tall stance then used a short stride. Displayed a level swing plane and his bat speed was quick. Line drive approach. In the infield, his best throw was registered at 83 mph; has soft hands and smooth footwork. Had a long arm action and a ¾ slot. In the 60-yard dash, he recorded a time of 7.72. On the mound, showed quick arm speed with an over-the-top angle and a loose arm action. He is a tall-and-fall type pitcher and uses high effort. Balance point is a tall during delivery. Threw his fastball 79-81 mph. Has a sharp curveball (64-65) that shows in the zone control and swing and miss action. Shows fading action on his some changeup (73-74).
