PBR Louisiana Diamond Notes (Week 3)

Player of the Week

John Pearson CF / RHP / West Monroe, LA / 2024

West Monroe has been on fire since losing the second game of the regular season, as they have reeled off 14 straight wins, to improve their overall record to 15-1.   The Rebels went a perfect 5-0 this week with wins over Ouachita Christian, Live Oak, St. Amant, Dutchtown, and Hanville.  Pearson, a LSU commit, had a monster week at the plate for West Monroe, as he finished going 11-18 (.611) with a HR, 3 2B, and 2 3B with 11 R and 5 RBI. 

 

 

 

Pitcher of the Week

Marshall Louque SS / RHP / Lutcher, LA / 2025

The former Future Gamer was the Class 3A Player of the Year last spring, on route to leading Lutcher to a state title, and he doesn't seem to be slowing down this season.  The LSU commit earned two wins last week on the mound for the Bulldogs, after tossing 12 1/3 innings giving up only 6 H and 0 ER with 3 BB and 18 K's.  Louque was also impressive at the plate, as he went 8-14 (.571) on the week with 3 2B, 7 R, and 3 RBI. 

 

 

Other Top Performers

Slay Coleman 1B / OF / Elizabeth , LA / 2023

Coleman had a big week for Elizabeth, as they move to 11-1 on the year.  The uncommitted prospect went 10-14 (.714) with 3 HR, 3B, and 11 RBI, while swiping 5 bases.

 

JC Vanek 1B / LHP / Barbe , LA / 2023

The Chipola College recruit picked up a win on the mound against St. Louis Catholic by tossing a complete game, giving up 3 R and 0 ER on 3 H with 0 BB and 9 K’s.  Vanek also went 5-12 (.417) at the plate with a HR and 3 2B with 8 R and 3 RBI.

 

Amahri Jackson OF / Pineville, LA / 2023

Uncommitted for now, Jackson had an offensive explosion for the Rebels, as Pineville went 4-0 on the week and moved into our Power 25 Rankings for the first time this spring.  Jackson went 7-11 (.636) at the plate with 3 HR, 2B, and 7 RBI, while also drawing 6 walks.

 

Reese Mooney SS / 3B / Denham Springs , LA / 2023

The Liberty recruit had a nice week for the Yellow Jackets at the plate.  Mooney, who also doubles as a “QB1” in the fall, went 6-13 (.462) with a HR, 2B, and 6 RBI.

 

Brant Melancon LHP / OF / Parkview Baptist, LA / 2024

The Southeastern Louisiana commit performed, both on the mound and at the plate, for the Eagles last week.  Offensively, he went 4-12 (.333) with 2 R, RBI, and a BB.  Melancon earned a save against Calvary Baptist by tossing 1 inning giving up 1 H and 0 ER with 3 K’s.  He also tallied a win against Iowa with a stat line of 6 IP, 5 H, 1 ER, 0 BB, 6 K’s.

 

Kasen Bellard SS / RHP / Barbe , LA / 2024

The University of Louisiana commit had a great week at the plate for the Bucs, as they went undefeated in Week 3.  Bellard finished the week going 5-11 (.455) with a HR, 3 R, and 5 RBI.

 

Lane Lusk OF / 1B / Live Oak, LA / 2023

The uncommitted senior has been one of the hottest hitters in the state so far this spring and he continued to perform well in Week 3.  For the week, Lusk went 8-17 (.471) with a HR, 2B, 2 3B, 9 R, and 5 RBI.  

 

Ryan Darrah OF / SS / Brother Martin, LA / 2025

The Crusaders have a young team this spring and Darrah has been one of those young guys leading the charge.  The uncommitted prospect went 7-16 (.438) with a HR, 3B, 7 R, and 2 RBI.

 

Garrett Walker SS / RHP / Grand Lake, LA / 2023

The newly minted John Melvin commit led the Hornets all the way to the Class 1A State Championship game last spring and is looking to make another run this season.  Walker went 6-11 (.545) last week with 3 2B, 4 R, and 5 RBI.

 

Gavin Walker 2B / OF / Grand Lake, LA / 2023

The “other” Walker also enjoyed a really good week for Grand Lake.  The John Melvin commit went 6-13 (.462) at the plate with a 2B, 5 R, and 3 RBI

 

Griffin Cooley OF / LHP / Kinder, LA / 2023

The Yellow Jackets have moved into our Power 25 Rankings for the first time this season with Cooley leading the way offensively.  The LSU signee went 9-14 (.643) on the week with 3 2B, 2 3B, 6 R, and 7 RBI.  Cooley also tossed 2 shutout innings against Ascension Episcopal giving up only 1 H with 0 BB and 4 K’s.

 

Brandon Levy RHP / SS / Parkway, LA / 2023

The University of Louisiana recruit had a big week offensively for the Panthers, as Parkway took a mid-week game over Sterlington, before winning a three game series against Central (BR).  Levy went 9-14 (.643) with a HR, 4 2B, 7 R, and 3 RBI.  

 

Holden LeBlanc SS / 2B / Barbe , LA / 2023

Leblanc is a first-year starter for Barbe, who has been stellar defensively and got things going offensively in Week 3.  At the plate, he went 7-16 (.438) with 3 2B and a 3B while driving in 7 runs and scoring 7 runs as well.

 

Sam Ardoin SS / Sam Houston High School, LA / 2023

The University of Texas recruit has gotten his senior campaign off to a nice start.  For the week, Ardoin went 5-10 (.500) with 5 R and a RBI.  He also made his first district appearance on the mound and tossed a shutout inning against Lafayette giving up 1 H with 0 BB and 2 K’s.

 

Grant Porche LHP / 1B / Lafayette Christian, LA / 2024

The uncommitted right-handed hurler had a big week on the mound for LCA.  Porche got the start against St. Edmund Catholic last week and earned the win after tossing a complete game giving up only 1 ER on 3 H with 2 BB and 12 K’s.  

 

Grant Trahan OF / RHP / Barbe, LA / 2023

An uncommitted two-way prospect; Trahan had a great week for the Bucs in Week 3.  At the plate, he went 8-17 (.471) with a HR, 2B, and 3 3B, while scoring 10 runs with 14 RBI.

 

Dylan Thompson SS / RHP / Sam Houston , LA / 2023

The Broncos opened up district play last week and went 3-0, improving their overall record to 13-0 on the year.  The LSU signee went 5-10 (.500) at the plate with 2 2B, 2 R, and 7 RBI.  Thompson also picked up a win on the mound against Acadiana by going 4 innings and giving up only 2 H and 1 ER with 3 BB and 4 K’s.

 

Cole Flanagan LHP / OF / Sam Houston, LA / 2025

The physical uncommitted two-way prospect has been really good so far this spring for Sam Houston, both on the mound and at the plate.  Last week, Flanagan went 4-10 (.400) at the plate with a 2B, 2 3B, 2 R, and 4 RBI.  He also earned a win on the mound against Acadiana by tossing a 6 inning shutout giving up only 1 H with 1 BB and 7 K’s.

 

Donovan Lasalle CF / 2B / Barbe , LA / 2023

Last week’s Player of the Week continued to stay hot at the plate for Barbe.  Lasalle, a Oklahoma State recruit, went 10-16 (.625) with 3 2B and a 3B, while scoring 12 runs and driving in 4 runs. 

 

Zack Berry C / 3B / Dutchtown , LA / 2023

The LSU-Alexandria recruit had a nice week for the Griffins, both at the plate and defensively.  Berry logged a total of 30 innings behind the dish and threw out a base runner as well.  He also went 7-12 (.583) with a HR, 2B, and a 3B, while driving in 5 runs.

 

Jaxon Landreneau 2B / 3B / Sam Houston , LA / 2023

The recent LSU-Eunice commit has been performing for Sam Houston this spring, hitting in the middle of the Broncos order.  For the week, Landreneau went 4-10 (.400) with 3 R and a RBI.

 

John David Alexander OF / RHP / Barbe, LA / 2026

The state’s 2nd ranked prospect in the ‘26 class got in a groove last week at the plate for the Bucs.  Alexander went 10-14 (.714) at the plate with a HR, 3 2B, and 2 3B with 8 R and a whopping 13 RBI.  

 

Hunter Azemar C / 3B / Southside, LA / 2023

The Holmes Community College recruit had an offensive explosion in week 3 for the Sharks.  Azemar finished the week going 4-8 (.500) at the plate with 2 HR (one a grand slam), 2 R and 9 RBI.

 

Jackson Legg LHP / LHP / Calvary Baptist, LA / 2023

The LSU-Eunice recruit excelled offensively and on the mound for Calvary Baptist last week.  At the plate, he went 7-14 (.500) with a 3B, 5 R, and 4 RBi, while also swiping 2 bases.  Legg also picked up a win on the mound against Zachary by tossing a complete game giving up 1 R and 0 ER on 4 H with 1 BB and 8 K’s.

 

Alex Lagasse LHP / John Curtis, LA / 2023

When you look at Lagasse’s stat line, at face value, from his start last week against Chalmette, one would think that’s a pretty good day, but it was much more than just a good day.  In the 7 inning 1 H shutout win over the Owls, Lagasse only had to throw 56 pitches (38 strikes) to secure the win, which is an average of 8 pitches/inning.
