PBR Louisiana Game of the Week (Week 4): Barbe vs. Sam Houston

Alex Armand
Louisiana Scouting Director

We are now almost a month into the high school season, which means we are now moving into the second phase of the spring, with district play beginning across the state.  Last week, we traveled to Dutchtown, to watch the then undefeated Griffins take on Central BR, and the game did not disappoint.  Both starting pitchers turned in really good outings, as 2023 RHP Cooper Dailey (Delgado CC) went 4 innings and gave up only 1 H and 1 ER with 5 K's for the Griffins, while 2024 LHP Grayden Harris (Southern Miss) gave up only 2 H and 1 ER over 5 innings with 9 K's and 0 BB.  Central BR ended up giving Dutchtown their first loss of the season by a score of 3-1 in 10 innings.  This week, we have one of the most anticipated matchups of the year, as we head to Moss Bluff, LA to see Barbe take on Sam Houston, in our Week 4 Game of the Week.  Both the Bucs and Broncos are undefeated, and sit at #1 and #2 respectively in our Power 25 Rankings.  Barbe has been dominant so far this season, on route to a perfect 17-0 record with our Week 2 Player of the Week Donovan Lasalle (Oklahoma State) leading the way offensively.  The Bucs have a plethora of options on the mound, as Coach Cecchini could go with 2024 RHP Landon Victorian (LSU) or 2023 LHP JC Vanek (Chipola College), who are both undefeated on the season.  Sam Houston has also gotten off to a hot start this season, as they currently own a 13-0 overall record.  The Broncos are led on offense by seniors Dylan Thompson (LSU) and Sam Ardoin (Texas), who are both former Future Gamers.  As for who Coach Hebert decides to send to the mound, it remains to be seen if he'll go with Thompson or 2025 LHP Cole Flanagan, who has been really good so far this spring.  The two teams have split their district matchups each of the last two seasons and have provided Louisiana high school baseball fans with intense games over the years, as they met up in the '19 state championship game and then again, in the '21 semifinals.  We expect more of the same on Thursday night, as this game could very well serve as a preview to the state tournament.  Be sure to follow us, across all of our social media platforms, for the biggest game so far this season, between #1 Barbe and #2 Sam Houston!
