All-State Games: Outfielder Analysis

The PBR Louisiana All-State Games took place on Saturday, November 7th at LSU Eunice. The event featured over 80 prospects with all high school classes represented. 

Last week, we began our position-by-positional analysis of this extremely talented event by taking a look at the catchers. Today, our coverage continues with reports on the outfielders.

Jaxon Adams C / 3B / Denham Springs, LA / 2023

Athletic 5’ 11”, 150 lbs. frame with room to add strength. The 2023 RHH hitter works from an athletic, balanced stance; small stride with balance throughout swing. Creates solid bat speed with a gap-to-gap approach, flat bat path that stays on plane through contact resulting in an exit velocity of 83 mph.  Developing athlete, showed improved actions during the infield workout with clean exchanges into a high-¾ release producing an improved positional velocity of 80 mph. Ran a 7.50 60-yard dash. Posted a 2.00-2.07 pop time behind the plate and a positional velocity of 72 mph. 

 

Ryan Baron LHP / OF / St. Louis Catholic, LA / 2022

Still developing 6’2”, 160 lbs. frame with room to add strength.  The RHH starts in a tall, slightly open stance, using a simple stride to get into the hitting position.  Uphill bat path, gets a little long at times, good extension through baseball that produced a max exit velocity of 91 mph.  On the mound, Baron hides the ball well from hitters, releases from a high ¾ arm slot.  FB showed arm side run topping out at 84 mph, sitting 82-83 mph.  CH that sat 73-76 mph was his best secondary pitch as he showed the ability to keep the same arm speed as his FB.  Flashed a developing CB at 64-65 mph.  Ran a 6.9 in the 60 and threw 85 mph from the OF. 

Tyler Barrett OF / 1B / Barbe , LA / 2021

Physical 6’1” 180 lbs. frame.  The Barbe product starts in a slightly wide, athletic stance, moving his hands from up to down, using a leg kick to get his swing off.  Violent, aggressive swing during BP round, showing present pull side power that resulted in a 93 mph exit velocity.  Well rounded athlete that ran 7.44 in the 60 and threw 83 mph from the OF.  

Coleman Capaci RHP / OF / Archbishop Rummel, LA / 2024

Still developing 5’9” 140 lbs. frame with plenty of room to grow and add strength.  Begins in a tall, athletic stance, hands held high, using a leg kick to get into the hitting position.  Contact hitter for now, really using his hands to stay inside the baseball.  Look for him to use more lower half as he continues to progress.  Produced a max exit velocity of 83 mph.  Showed good reads during the defensive portion of the day, catching balls in rhythm from the OF.  Released from an over the top arm slot that produced a positional velocity of 79 mph.  Ran a 7.87 in the 60.  

Wyatt Chenevert LHP / OF / Catholic (BR), LA / 2024

Long, lean 5’10” 130 lbs. frame with room to add strength.  The LHH starts in a tall, open stance, using a toe-tap load to get back to center.  Worked a lot of balls to the pull side in his BP round that produced a max exit velocity of 71 mph.  Attacked the ball well during the OF defensive portion of the day, releasing the ball from a ¾ arm slot that produced an OF positional velocity of 73 mph.  Also showed his ability to play 1B.  Stayed low, received the ball with average hands, and showed a quick release that produced a positional velocity of 72 mph.  Ran a 8.00 in the 60.

Cameran Christ C / RHP / Live Oak, LA / 2023

Developing athlete; 6'0" 185 lbs. frame with room to add strength. The Mississippi State commit posted a 77 mph positional velocity with carry on his throws to second base.  Quality receiver with average footwork and release resulted in a 1.95-2.00 pop time.  The 2023 LHH had a professional round of BP, working the ball into the opposite field gap in the early part of his BP round and finished it off by driving balls to the pull side, showing increased power that resulted in a 92 mph exit velocity.  Threw 86 mph from the OF and posted a 7.22 in the 60.

Landen Chustz OF / 1B / Catholic (BR), LA / 2023

Physical, athletic 6’2” 190 lbs. frame.  Hits from a narrow, tall stance, with little movement in his hands, using a leg kick to get his swing off.  Did a really good job of staying behind the baseball at contact with good extension, driving balls consistently from gap to gap.  Aggressive swing that produced a max exit velocity of 92 mph.  Good reads in the OF, over the top arm slot that resulted in an 82 mph positional velocity.  At 1B, showed average hands, athletic footwork, with a quick release that resulted in a 75 mph positional velocity.  Ran a 7.18 in the 60.

Tyler Collins OF / 2B / St. Thomas More, LA / 2023

Athletic 5’8” 150 lbs. frame with room to add strength.  The RHH starts from a very balanced, athletic stance, using a simple load and stride.  Bat path got a little long at times, but showed some fast twitch in his swing and good extension that produced a max exit velocity of 86 mph.  Consistently squared up balls using the entire field.  Showed good footwork and reads in the OF, using a ¾ arm slot that produced a 79 mph positional velocity.  Throws from the OF had good backspin and carry and were on target.  Ran a 7.00 in the 60.

Crawford Courville OF / OF / Barbe, LA / 2022

Physical, athletic 6’2” 180 lbs. frame with some rood to add more strength.  Broad shoulders and narrow hips.  Courville was one of the best athletes in attendance.  Ran a 6.60 in the 60.  Starts in a tall stance, rhythm in his hands, using a simple load to get into the hitting position.  Gets a little “handsy” at times.  Contact hitter who showed good ability to use the middle of the field during his BP round that produced a 90 mph exit velocity.  Improved defender in the OF that showed good reads off the bat, attacked the ball aggressively, used an over the top arm slot that produced an 86 mph positional velocity.

Reese Dean OF / LHP / Central Private, LA / 2023

Lean and athletic 5’9” 160 lbs. frame with plenty of room to add strength.  The LHH starts in a wide, athletic stance, good rhythm in his hands, as he uses a modified leg kick to load.  Stayed behind the ball well, showing the ability to repeat his swing, consistently squaring up balls using the whole field that produced a max exit velocity of 86 mph.  Athletic actions in the OF with aggressive throws that produced a positional velocity of 88 mph.  Overall, really good athlete that ran a 6.88 in the 60.  

Kameron Edwards OF / OF / Barbe, LA / 2021

Athletic, twitchy 5’9” 165 lbs. frame with room to add more strength.  Edwards was another standout athlete who started the day off by running a 6.72 in the 60.  The LHH hits from an athletic, upright stance, bringing his hands from high to low, using a simple load and stride.  Direct bat path, using his hands to hit the ball up the middle and to the opposite field gap.  Posted an 85 mph exit velocity.  During the game portion, he collected two hits, both driven to the opposite field gap.  Really good defender in the OF.  Gets good jumps off the bat, advanced footwork, high ¾ arm slot that produced a positional velocity of 88 mph.  Edwards committed to Eastern Kentucky University following the event.

Evan Folse RHP / OF / Fontainebleau, LA / 2023

Physical 5’10” 190 lbs. frame. Hits from a tall and open stance, laying his bat down at shoulder height, using a leg kick to get back to center.  Slightly uphill bat path, good extension, with some present pull side power that resulted in an 85 mph exit velocity.  Good reads from the OF, average footwork, with an over the top release that produced a positional velocity of 83 mph.  Average hands, good footwork for a physical player in the IF, with a quick release that produced an INF positional velocity of 82 mph.  Ran a 7.94 in the 60.

Jude Gremillion OF / RHP / Central, LA / 2022

Athletic 5’11” 160 lbs. frame that will continue to add strength.  Excellent athlete that started his day off by running a 6.69 in the 60.  Balanced, slightly open stance, using a toe tap load to get into the hitting position.  Slightly uphill bat path with really good extension through the baseball.  Made consistent hard contact during his BP round by staying behind the ball and in his back leg.  Produced a max exit velocity of 84 mph.  Athletic actions in the OF with a long, loose ¾ arm action that produced a 91 mph positional velocity.  

Jacob Hedges OF / OF / Dunham Tigers, LA / 2022

Physical, stocky 5’7” 160 lbs. frame.  Hits from a narrow, open stance, using a leg kick to get back to center.  Timing was off at times, but good contact was made when he hit the ball out front.  Aggressive swings during BP round with a slightly uphill bat path that produced a 77 mph max exit velocity.  Above average reads and footwork in the OF with a ¾ arm slot that produced a positional velocity of 81 mph.  Above average runner as well that posted a 6.90 in the 60.  

Brayden Kuriger C / OF / St. Amant, LA / 2022

Athletic, physical 6’0” 170 lbs. frame with room to add strength.  The RHH hit from a slightly tall stance, hands held high, with weight pre-loaded in his back leg.  Used a toe tap load to get his swing off.  Showed a lot of quick twitch in his hands with good extension through the baseball that produced an exit velocity of 89 mph.  Quick release behind the plate, with average footwork and developing arm strength that produced pop times of 2.05-2.12 and a positional velocity of 74 mph.  Showed above average arm strength from the OF, posting a positional velocity of 88 mph.  Quality runner and athlete.  Recorded a 7.18 in the 60.

Brandon Levy RHP / SS / Parkway, LA / 2023

Athletic 5’11” 170 lbs. frame.  Good overall athlete that ran a 6.93 in the 60.  The RHH hits from an athletic, slightly tall stance, using a toe tap load.  Consistently squared up balls during his BP round, showed some present pull side power.  Flat bat path with good extension that produced a max exit velocity of 90 mph.  Athletic footwork in the OF, good jumps and reads off the bat with a long loose ¾ arm action that produced a positional velocity of 91 mph.  Showed soft hands in the IF attacking the ball with good footwork and rhythm moving through the baseball.  Quick release that produced an IF positional velocity of 90 mph.  Very impressive outing on the mound during the game portion.  FB sat 85-86 mph, topping out at 87 mph.  Late, cutting action away from RHH on his FB.  Also flashed a big, 12-6 shaped CB sitting 67-71 mph that he was able to land consistently for strikes. 

Ethan Medlin OF / RHP / Barbe , LA / 2021

Athletic 6’0” 175 lbs. frame, narrow hip, broad shoulder build with room to add strength.  Hits from an athletic stance with some weight pre-loaded in his back leg.  Simple load and stride.  Showed a lot of quick twitch in his hands, while also staying in his back leg, consistently squaring up balls using a balanced swing that produced a max exit velocity of 94 mph. Collected a hit during the game portion as well; a line drive to left centerfield.   Advanced defender in the OF that gets excellent reads and jumps off the bat.  Posted a 91 mph positional velocity.  Ran a 6.93 in the 60.  

Barrett Newman OF / 1B / Parkway, LA / 2023

Physical, athletic 6’0” 185 lbs. frame.  The LHH starts in a tall, open stance.  Glides out with hi front foot to get into his hitting position.  Flashed some pull side power during BP round.  Works up though the baseball with good extension, hitting the ball out front that produced a max exit velocity of 89 mph.  Showed average reads and jumps in the OF.  Short, ¾  arm action resulted in an 84 mph positional velocity.  Ran a 7.04 in the 60.  

Brady Neyland OF / SS / Zachary, LA / 2022

Athletic 6’1” 170 lbs. frame with room to add strength.  Really good overall athlete that began his day by running a 6.94 in the 60.  RHH hits from an athletic, balanced stance, using a simple load and stride.  Barrel got a little long at times during his BP round.  Does a good job of repeating his swing, as he consistently squared up balls with a level bat path and good extension that produced a max exit velocity of 93 mph.  Played balls well in the OF, advanced footwork, and aggressive throws from a ¾ arm slot produced a positional velocity of 92 mph.  

Michael OBrien OF / LHP / John Curtis Christian, LA / 2023


Michael OBrien:  Athletic and wiry 6’0” 175 lbs. frame with room to add strength.  The LHH had one of the loudest rounds of BP on the day, showing the ability to repeat a balanced swing.  Starts in an athletic, slightly wide stance, using a knee to knee load.  Fast hands with a direct bat path and good extension.  Stays behind the ball and in his back leg throughout the swing.  Produced a max exit velocity of 86 mph.  Showed athletic footwork, above average jumps and reads in the OF, using a ¾ arm slot that produced a positional velocity of 91 mph.  Throws had backspin and carry to home plate.  Above average runner that posted a 6.93 in the 60.

John Pearson 3B / RHP / West Monroe, LA / 2024

Super physical 6’0” 210 lbs. frame.   The RHH starts from an athletic, balanced stance.  Simple load by picking his front foot up and putting straight back down in the same place.  Strong lower half that uses throughout the swing.  Showed present pull side power.  Consistently squared up baseballs during his BP round producing an event best 100 mph exit velocity.  Showed the ability to play multiple positions.  Good reads and jumps in the OF, releasing the ball from a ¾ arm slot that produced a positional velocity of 88 mph.  Soft hands, average footwork, quick ¾ in the IF resulted in a positional velocity of 85 mph.  On the mound, Pearson is a bulldog, competitor, and strike thrower.  FB sat 83-85 mph, topping out at 86 mph.  Was able to keep the same arm speed on his 74-77 mph straight CH, that he was able to consistently land for strikes.  Also flashed a 70-72 mph CB.  Ran a 7.33 in the 60.  

Josh Pearson OF / 2B / West Monroe , LA / 2021

Athletic, strong 5’10” 195 lbs. frame.  Pearson started his day off by running a 6.50 in the 60.  The LHH starts in an antheltic, balanced stance, using a modified leg lift to get into the hitting position.  Uphill bat path.  Barrel stays behind the ball and through the ball a long time.  Flashed present pull side power during BP; launching several balls deep into the right centerfield gap.  Posted a max exit velocity of 95 mph.  Received the ball out front during the IF portion, average footwork, quick release that resulted in an 80 mph positional velocity.  In the OF, showed advanced jumps and reads off the bat.  ¾ release that resulted in an 86 mph positional velocity.  

William Perkins OF / RHP / Sterlington , LA / 2021

Physical 5’11” 187 lbs. frame with room to add more strength.  The RHH starts from an open, athletic stance, using a toe tap load.  Strong top hand, direct bat path, with excellent extension.  Fires his back hip aggressively while maintaining balance throughout his swing.  Showed gap to gap power, posting a max exit velocity of 94 mph.  Advanced footwork, good reads, and accurate throws with backspin and carry from the OF that resulted in a 92 mph positional velocity.  Really good runner as well, as he posted a 6.78 in the 60.  

Logan Pierre OF / RHP / Saint Thomas Aquinas, LA / 2022

Athletic, wiry 5’9” 165 lbs. frame with room to ad strength.  Hits from an upright, athletic stance, using a toe tap load.  Stays on his backside throughout the swing with a slightly uphill bat path.  Used the middle of the field well resulting a max exit velocity of 75 mph.  Average footwork with a ¾ arm release produced an OF positional velocity of 77 mph.  Ran a 7.13 in the 60.  On the mound, FB sat 73-74 mph, topping out at 75 mph.  Also flashed a developing 63-64 mph CB and a 69-70 mph CH.  

John Alex Walsh RHP / 3B / Alexandria, LA / 2023

Long, athletic 6’1” 180 lbs. frame that should continue to add strength as he develops.  The RHH starts in a balanced, athletic, slightly open stance.  Hands start high and work down.  Aggressive, uphill bat path with good extension.  Posted a 92 mph exit velocity.  Average OF actions with a long, loose, ¾ arm action resulting in an 88 mph positional velocity.  Soft hands, average footwork, quick ¾ arm release.  Posted an 84 mph positional velocity in the IF.  Ran a 7.10 in the 60.  

Cooper Winchester C / OF / St. Pauls, LA / 2024

Developing athlete with a 5’11” 165 lbs. frame. The switch hitting 2024 catcher hits from a slightly wide stance with rhythm in his hands, using a simple load and stride from the left side.  Aggressively attacked the baseball during his BP round, showing a direct bat path and good extension back through the middle of the field that resulted in an 82 mph exit velocity.  Stands tall from the right side with his hands held high.  Showed a slightly steep bat path from the right side with good extension.  Average footwork and exchanges behind the plate produced pop times of 2.05-2.23 and a positional velocity of 70 mph.  Threw 81 mph from the OF and posted a 7.41 in the 60.
