I-10 Border Battle: Stats Breakdown
January 15, 2018
The I-10 Border Battle took place on Saturday January 13th, at Lamar University in Beaumont, TX. The invite only event saw seventy players from all across Louisiana and Texas in attendance, but we will focus on the statistical performances of the Louisiana prospects.
2019 RHP/C Drew Lasseigne (Central(BR) HS, LA) has been a steady riser since the fall, and continued his upward trend on Saturday. An extremely physical 6-foot-4, 220-pound frame, the right-handed pitcher showed explosive stuff on the mound, sitting 87-90 mph with late life and heaviness to his fastball. However, the separator for Lasseigne on Saturday was his devastating secondary offerings, which included a firm, sharp slider with 10/4 shape, late break, solid depth, and tight spin at 76-78 mph.
2019 OF Chandler Hay (Cedar Creek HS, LA) is one of the best athletes in Louisiana’s 2019 class. An athletic 5-foot-11, 170-pound frame, Hay showed off an elite-level run tool, posting a 6.66 laser-timed 60-yard dash. As well, the right-handed hitting outfielder showed quality bat speed, posting an 89 mph exit velocity.
Tulane recruit, 2018 SS Collin Burns (De La Salle HS, LA) showed polish to his overall game. Burns posted an event best 95 mph exit velocity, showing explosive bat speed from the left-side, as well as posting a 7.01 laser timed 60-yard dash, and an 80 mph positional velocity.
2019 OF Nick Vallette (Sulphur HS, LA) was another big winner from Saturday’s event, showing elite-level athleticism during the morning and afternoon sessions. A fluid, effortless runner, Vallette posted a 6.67 laser-timed 60-yard dash, and showed a simple, compact right-handed stroke with present bat speed.
2019 LHP Dylan Beier (Barbe HS, LA) was dominant during his outing at the I-10 Border Battle. The 5-foot-10, 165-pounder worked with outstanding tempo, filling up the strike zone with a quality three-pitch mix, and over-matched opposing hitters. Sitting 85-88 mph with his fastball, Beier attacked the strike zone, showing an ability to command the pitch to both sides of the plate. Additionally, he showed an ability to spin a tight breaking ball with depth and late break at 71-73 mph, as well as, an exceptional feel for a changeup with fastball arm speed, deception, and late fading action at 78-80 mph.
A complete recap of the event will be coming in the following weeks.
