PBR Future Games - Day 1 Review

Alex Armand
Louisiana Scouting Director

The 2021 Prep Baseball Report Future Games kicked off yesterday, Wednesday 07/28/21, with a showcase style workout that included the top uncommitted 2023 and 2024 prospects from around the country.  Over 250 college coaches were on hand and locked in to see the vast amount of talent on display.  Players participated in the 60 yard dash, defensive workout for both infielders, outfielders, and catchers, as well as a batting practice round.  Below, we take a look at some of the guys that stood out yesterday.  Be sure to follow us on social media over the next 3-4 days, as we continue to provide coverage!

-2023 C Jake LaRocca (St. Louis HS): Physical 6'0" 190 lbs. frame with a compact build; the St. Louis Saint product had a nice start to the Future Games yesterday.  Posted several personal bests during the workout.  Recorded a 7.16 in the 60.  Took a professional round of BP, repeating his swing nicely, while driving balls gap to gap with a personal best max exit velocity of 94 mph and average exit velocity of 91 mph.  Posted pop times of 1.89-2.08 with a personal best 80 mph positional velocity from the crouch.

-2023 OF Reese Dean (Central Private HS): Dean most likely raised his stock the most from yesterday's workout.  The athletic L/L OF had a nice round of BP, consistently squaring up balls gap to gap, while recording a personal best 91 mph max exit velocity.  During the defensive portion of the day, he made consistent, accurate throws from RF and reached a personal best 92 mph.

-2023 OF Griffin Cooley (Kinder HS): Athletic and physical 6'1" 175 lbs. frame that projects.  Cooley was a guy that we "picked to click" this week and he got his Future Games started off the right way.  Took aggressive hacks during his BP round, showing power to the middle-pull side part of the field and recorded a personal best max exit velocity of 99 mph, a +5 mph jump from our Top Prospect Games in June.  Also, threw 87 mph from the OF, which was also a personal best.  A high follow this week.

-2024 SS Owen Galt (Barbe HS): Galt was one of the defensive standouts from yesterday's workout, which should be of no surprise.  Showed soft hands, athletic footwork moving through the baseball with a quick release.  Throws to first base had backspin and carry and he reached 82 mph throwing across the diamond.  Simple approach during BP round with solid contact through the middle of the field with a max exit velocity of 83 mph, a personal best.

-2023 SS Samuel Ardoin (Sam Houston HS): Lean and athletic 6'1" 160 lbs. frame with plenty of room to add strength.  Ardoin had a solid start to his Future Games.  Showed some range during the infield portion of the workout, catching the ball cleanly, reaching 86 mph across the diamond.  Throws were accurate with back spin and carry.  Worked up the middle and to the opposite field gap during his BP round, recording a max exit velocity of 90 mph.  Also, posted a 7.11 in the 60.

-2024 SS Kasen Bellard (Barbe HS): Bellard was one of the top hitters from last year's Jr. Future Games team and he showed well yesterday during his BP round.  Short and compact to contact with a level path through extension.  Consistently barreled balls to the middle of the field, reaching a max exit velocity of 86 mph.  Also, showed well during the defensive portion of the day, catching balls cleanly with a short arm action and quick release.
