TX Limited Series: DAY 3

Day Three of the PBR Texas Limited Series saw action heat up, and gave the players on the field a chance to continue to build off the first two days. The middle game of the day paired the Dallas Tigers-Arias against the Hunter Pence-Calhoun squad. Then energy and intensity were high throughout the game with the Dallas Tigers eventually breaking through to come from behind for the win after trailing 2-1 in the seventh inning. 2020 SS Cole Foster (Plano HS, TX), a Texas Christian recruit, started the scoring for the Tigers by blasting a run-scoring double while hitting from the right side. The switch-hitting prospect continues to impress at the plate as well as on offense.

Both starters pitched deep into the game, pounding the zone while limiting the offenses. Uncommitted 2020 LHP/OF Rhett McCaffety (Cy Fair HS, TX) worked strong into the seventh inning for Hunter Pence sitting 81-84 for much of the outing out of a near over the top slot. There is some effort out front as he clears his head to release the ball, but he was able to work both sides of the plate with control. He also demonstrated feel for a shorter, 1/7 curveball at 70-71 that he was able to throw for strikes. More than anything, McCaffety was a competitor on the mound.

Getting the ball for the Dallas Tigers was 2020 RHP Hunter Marshall (Keller HS, TX), an Oklahoma recruit. Marshall worked exclusively out of the stretch at 83-86, and showed the ability to pound the zone with his fastball to both sides of the plate. There was some sinking action to the arm side, and he showed confidence in pounding the pitch in on right-handed hitters. Able to manipulate his breaking ball, Marshall was up as high 77 mph with a truer slider with some tilt while also garnering bigger break on a slower curveball at 69-71. The slider has a chance to be a swing and miss pitch moving forward, and with his feel for setting up hitters, it may develop into a weapon in the near future. He has a fast arm and repeats his high ¾ slot with ease.
