LEOMINSTER, Ma. - Family has always been very important to Reed Parson. When the opportunity to play college baseball close to home presented itself, the Nashoba Regional High School junior did not take long to decide.

“I went on a visit Sept. 2 and they offered me there,” Parson related about Massachusetts-Lowell. “I accepted a week later.”

The chance to be a two-way player was too much to pass up.

“That was big,” the 74th-ranked player in the 2020 New England class said about being more than a pitcher-only. “I’ve wanted to go two-way since I was little. I knew that not a ton of people get two-way offers and Lowell liked how I pitched and was able to play the field. They like their pitchers athletic and they offered me as a two-way. It was the perfect fit.”

A three-week process in late July through early August connected Parson and Lowell.

“They had contact with my coach, they came and watched a game in Boston and then their pitching coach saw me at Perfect Games Pro,” reflected Parson about the quick recruitment.

Parson, who plays second, short or third when not on the mound, had previously visited Bryant and had interest from UMass-Amherst and Fordham through PBR events. However, Lowell offered what Parson was looking for in a college.

“When I was talking with the coaches, I like how they talked about 100 things before baseball,” Parson said. “I really liked the campus, the field was great and I met some of the kids and that was good, too.”
