55 players took part in this year's Scout Day with Elite Baseball MD. Players in attendance represented multiple teams within the organization spanning the 2021-2024 graduating classes. Players were put through a pro-style workout that included BP and bullpens for pitchers. Below are scout notes on 11 top performers from the position player portion of the workout with short video clips from BP included on each player.

Top Performances from the Positional Workout Portion

Morgan Bragg C / 3B / Clarksburg, MD / 2021

Caught another glimpse of Bragg at the Scout Day. Had been over a year since we last saw him at the Top Prospect Games West at Mount St. Mary's. Strong body and 5'9'', 170 pound frame. Still uncommitted. Minimal load and stride at the plate. Stays compact and short to the ball with bat speed through the zone. Strength present in the swing and gets nice extension through contact. Shows pop up the middle and to the pull side. Arm velo was up to 70 mph out of the crouch and pops ranged 2.06-2.20 with accuracy to the bag.

Maxwell Burns 1B / OF / Georgetown Day, MD / 2022

Strong 6'0'', 205 pound frame. Displayed a lot of juice at the plate during BP to the pull side mostly. Recorded an 89 mph exit velo also off the tee. Hits from a square stance with a small kick into the stride. Barrel is flat through the zone with hands extended away from body. Gets some uphill tilt in the swing and doesn't get cheated. Showed quick bat speed and consistent barrel control squaring up a ton of balls in the round. Middle of the order type bat with room to grow and polish.

Todd Calhoun SS / 3B / Glenelg, MD / 2022

Tall, lean, projectable frame at 6'3'', 180 pounds. Balanced toe-tap load and stays short to the ball with quick bat speed through the zone and extension past contact. Ball jumps off the bat with more power projected as he continues to fill out. Showed a nice feel for the barrel squaring up a bunch of balls throughout BP. Recorded an 81 mph exit velo off the tee, ran a 7.17 60-yard time, and works through the ball in the middle with a 78 mph arm velo.

Miles Colbert OF / LHP / Our Lady Of Good Counsel , MD / 2021

We liked the projection on the mound and highlighted that already in our previous scout blog, but Colbert brings more than just that to the table. The uncommitted 2021 posses enough speed and quickness to play anywhere in the outfield and showed some surprising strength in the swing. The 6'1'', 180 pound frame is still lanky with a bunch more room to fill out. Hits from a square stance at the plate and strides to a slightly closed position with hands pre-set in a solid hitting position. Stays short to and really gets through the ball with really nice extension and loose rotation through the swing. Bat speed is fast and there is some lift in the swing. Showed middle to pull-side pop with an exit velo of 89 mph off a tee. Interesting prospect with two-way ability at the next level still looking for a home.

David Curtin 3B / OF / Einstein, MD / 2021

6'1'', 180 pound frame with some projection. Hits from a tall, relaxed - balanced stance at the plate and uses a toe-tap to load. Quick, low hand separation and stays short to the ball. Barrel flattens out early and the swing shows a natural uphill path. Gets great extension through contact with a full two-handed finish. Swing is smooth and easy through the zone. Nice feel for the barrel throughout BP with pull-side pop present. Versatility a plus as he can play at the corners in the infield and outfield.

Dustin Hottel C / 3B / Damascus, MD / 2023

Strong 5'9'', 175 pound frame. Smooth toe-tap load and compact swing. Stays short to the ball with loose hands and barrel whip. Really nice consistent middle of the field line drive approach. Maintains great balance throughout the swing that shows a more level path. Worked out in the infield and behind the plate. Fundamentally sound at third and throws were accurate to the bag with pop times figuring to improve with added arm strength.

Steven Tameris RHP / OF / Sherwood, MD / 2022

Projectable 6'0'', 175 pound frame. Small leg kick load with hand separation evident. Stays short to the ball with a more compact swing. Like the bat speed created through the zone and extension past contact. Maintains balance throughout the swing and worked middle to the pull-side throughout the round. More level swing path with some uphill tilt to it on pitches on the inner third pulling to left with pop. Recorded an 83 mph exit velo off the tee and has some two-way potential as highlighted in our previous scout blog on the arms.

Colby Patterson 2B / RHP / Our Lady of Good Counsel, MD / 2021

Athletic 5'9'', 150 pound frame. Began the workout by posting a 7.01 60-yard time and backed it up with a solid performance at the plate and int the field. Showed a quiet load at the plate with quick hands and a level swing path. Has feel for the barrel and a consistent middle of the field line drive approach. Clean actions, set-up, and athleticism in the infield with a 77 mph arm velo. Works through the ball, fielding it out in front and moves well. Projects more at second and should be able to play in the outfield if need be with the speed and athleticism. Uncommitted.

Beck Urofsky 3B / RHP / Bethesda-Chevy Chase, MD / 2022

Already highlighted as arguably the best arm at the scout day, Urofsky flashed a ton of potential offensively at the plate as well to cap an outstanding all-around workout. Strong, projectable 6'3'', 200 pound frame. Hits from a tall, slightly open stance at the plate with feet close together. Showed hand rhythm and a small controlled leg kick load. Gets the hands into a strong hitting position and stays short to the ball with quick bat speed through the zone. Strong lower half involvement and uphill swing path uphill present. Full two-handed finish with extension. Middle to pull-side approach shown in BP with power on display. Exit velo was up to 88 mph off the tee further showing his raw power. Solid, fundamental actions defensively at third base with a strong arm at 85 mph across the diamond. Also ran a 7.17 60-yard time which isn't bad with that frame. Again, a really nice day all-around cementing himself as a big time follow in the 2022 class moving forward.

Leo Whelan C / RHP / Sherwood , MD / 2022

Solid body type and 5'9'', 195 pound frame. Quiet, rhythmic load and creates nice hand separation. Works short to the ball with a slightly uphill path. Generates quick bat speed through the zone and gets really nice extension through contact. Strong lower half and middle of the field approach with easy pop to the pull-side. Flashed some quickness in the catch-and-release behind the plate. Pop times ranged 2.11-2.19 with a 70 mph arm velo and 82 mph exit velo off the tee.

Zach Yaqub OF / OF / Whitman , MD / 2022

Projectable 6'1'', 162 pound frame with strength. Strong leg kick load with hand separation. Smooth uphill swing. Creates fast bast speed and a whippy barrel through the zone. Stays behind the ball well and gets really nice extension through contact with a long full finish. Middle to pull-side approach. Ball jumps off the bat; recorded an 83 mph exit velo off the tee. Nice balance throughout the swing and feel for the barrel. Really like the offensive projection and power potential. Really interesting class of 2022 follow.
