The North Point Eagles hosted the La Plata Warriors on Friday for their senior day and both teams put on a good show for a nice size crowd. The final score does not reflect how close the game actually was, ending with an 8-3 victory for the Warriors

In the first inning both teams loaded the bases and both pitchers 2020 Ryan Calvert (La Plata) and Zane Lehosky (North Point) worked out of their innings allowing one run and two runs respectively. In the top half of the inning for North Point Patrick Estevez led off with a single followed by back-to-back walks by Kevon Wharton (Frederick Community College) and Zach Doss (University of Maryland). Calvert picked up his first two strikeouts of the day, but walked Kyle Batchelor to force in a run for the Eagles. With two outs Calvert found the strike zone and struck out the side. For North Point in the bottom half of the inning Lehosky started off his outing in the opposite fashion. He got the first two hitters in order and then the trouble started. The next five hitters reached base, with two walks and three singles. Calvert and Austin Brown scored when Jarrod Schmitz singled.

In the third inning La Plata would strike again plating two more as Calvert doubled and courtesy runner Shane Kirby would score in front of Brown who homered. The inning ended for the Warriors when Eagles shortstop Estevez made a heads up play fielding a sharply hit single deep in the hole and firing to third base behind the runner who had rounded the base too far.

Calvert would be on cruise control until running into a minor speed bump in the road with a walk, a wild pitch and a single that led to a run. Calvert finished his outing with a line of: 6 innings pitched 2 hits, 2 earned runs and 10 strikeouts.

La Plata would break the game open with one run in the sixth and three runs in the seventh. The Eagles scratched across one run in the bottom of the seventh but could not mount a rally off of Dean Kirby who came in to close out the game.
