It's hard to believe but the start of the 2020 Maryland high school baseball season is just two weeks away. Every week throughout the season we will release our Power 25, ranking the top twenty-five teams from across the Old Line State. Today we continue our Preseason Power 25 countdown by taking a look at our #17 team, the Gaithersburg Trojans from Montgomery County. We will release one team in our countdown each weekday leading up to the release of our 2020 #1 Preseason Power 25 team on March 19th. Then, on March 20th our PBR Maryland staff will release it's final preseason predictions for the upcoming 2020 season as team get ready to square off on opening day later that afternoon.

Season Snapshot

Gaithersburg returns several key players from last year's squad and looks to be one of the top contenders in not only the Montgomery County 4A West Division but also the 4A MPSSAA State Playoffs this season. The Trojans are loaded with experienced arms on the bump in 2020 with seniors Justin McDermott (Salisbury), Will Wikner (Berry College), and juniors Doug Marose and Noah Tabaie returning. Junior two-way player Bryce Greene also figures to mix in the rotation some adding yet another quality arm.

At the plate, first year head coach Michael McMillen will look for some younger players to step up with the aforementioned McDermott, Wikner, Marose, Tabaie, and Greene figuring to lead the way. Gaithersburg fell 4-2 last year in the 4A West Sectional Semifinals to Montgomery County 4A West Champion and rival Wootton. The new regional alignment however, sees Wootton moves to Region I while Gaithersburg, Clarksburg, Northwest, Quince Orchard, and Richard Montgomery remain in Region II. Urbana from Fredrick County slides in to Region II filling Wootton's spot to make it a six team pod once again. Expect this year's Trojans team to grow as the season progresses and for the strong staff to give them opportunities to win games early while the younger players find their stride.
