The Maryland Preseason ID took place on Sunday, February 21. Over 80 players from across Maryland and Delaware were in attendance showcasing their talent in front of the PBR Maryland scouting staff.

Over the course of the next week we will be releasing the positional analysis articles with detailed scouting reports on each player in attendance. We shall also identify top performers in each positional category along with a younger talent (2018 and younger) as a Future Watch if applicable.

Today we take a look at the Outfielders that participated in the event. An extremely deep pool of talent with many players deserving of Top Performer recognition.

TOP PERFORMERS

Randy Bednar OF Landon 2017
Solid athletic frame at 5-foot-11, 165-pounds. Ran a 6.74 60-yard dash. Hits from an athletic set up with smooth load and leg kick. Has direct swing path to the ball with explosive bat speed. Squared the baseball extremely well during batting practice. Extension through contact with backspin on the ball.  Gap-to-gap style hitter with power. Nice lower half involvement.  Exit velocity of 94 mph. Throws from a high ¾ arm slot with loose arm action.  Clean hands and exchange with active feet.  Works thru the ball very well and throws have life on them at 89 mph. Exciting prospect in the 2017 class.

Ryan Brown OF Saint James 2016
Athletic frame at 5-foot-10, 180-pounds. Has added strength to frame while keeping speed. Ran a 6.66 60-yard dash. Hits from a slightly open, athletic set up. Smooth load with leg kick to hitting position.  Level swing path to the ball with fast bat speed and gets extended through contact. Nice balance throughout swing. 90 mph exit velocity. Active feet in the outfield. Clean exchange with soft hands.  Throws from an almost over-the-top arm slot with carry on throws. Throws have life on them at 89 mph.

Ethan Gallagher OF Mount St. Joseph 2017
Solid athletic frame at 6-foot, 230-pounds. Ran a 7.13 60-yard dash. Hits from a tall, balanced set up. Smooth load with rhythm in swing. Short stride to hitting position. Has short swing to ball slightly up hill at times.  Nice lowe half and torque in swing. Strength at the plate. Creates fast bat speed to the ball with pull side pop at the moment and potential for power to all fields. Exit velocity of 99 mph. Active feet in the outfield. Clean exchange and works thru the ball. Throws from an almost-over-the-top arm angle. Falls slightly to the glove side after throw.  Ball has some carry on it at 81 mph.

FUTURE WATCH

Jeremy Lapp-Barger OF Century 2018
Projectable athletic frame at 6-foot, 180-pounds. Ran a 7.64 60-yard dash. From the right side, he hits from athletic setup, slightly open. Short load with knee-turn to hitting position. Level swing path with some bat speed. Strength to pull side. From the left, hits from similar athletic setup slightly open. Short load with knee turn to hitting position. Slightly longer swing with average bat speed. Gets barrel on the ball well. Quick wrists at plate and more of a middle approach at the plate. Looked stronger from right side and right handed exit velo was 85 mph. Active feet in the outfield. Clean exchange with good hands and loose arm action throwing from a high ¾ arm slot.  Throws have strong carry on them at 85 mph. Moves well in the outfield and has ability to play corner infield position as well. Plays game fast with quick actions. Very interesting prospect in the 2018 class and one to keep an eye on.

Brady Drawbaugh OF Saint James 2019
Athletic projectable frame at 5-foot-10, 145-pounds. Ran an 8.00 60-yard dash. Hits from a balanced set up.  Short load to hitting position. Gets nice lower half involvement in swing. Level swing path that gets longer at times. Shows extension thru contact. Does stay inside the baseball well in swing. Continued strength will increase barrel control. Exit velocity of 76 mph. Solid foundation at the plate that should continue to get better with strength. Has a short arm action throwing from a high ¾ arm angle. Nice hands with exchange. Works thru the ball and throws have some carry on them at 77 mph. That number should increase. Once again solid foundation and player should continue to get better as he matures and gets stronger and gets quicker

Timothy Glavin OF Wilmington Christian (DE) 2018
Projectable frame at 6-foot-1, 175-pounds. Ran a 7.38 60-yard dash. Athletic set up at the plate. Short load with small leg kick to hitting position. Has short swing path to the ball and shows ability to spread ball all over the field. Has some extension. Gets some lower half involvement. Shows some balance in swing. Exit velocity of 77 mph. Active feet in the outfield. Quick arm action throwing from a high ¾ arm slot. Throws have some carry at 75 mph. Nice frame on prospect and once to keep an eye on to monitor development as he smoothens out actions.  

Justin Johnson OF Kenwood 2018
Solid frame at 6-foot, 162-pounds. Hits from an athletic open set up. Ran a 7.44 60-yard dash. Stays slightly open to hitting position. Dives at ties to hitting position. Good hip explosion. Level swing path with quick bat speed and some extension. Nice lower half involvement, would like to see a bit better balance but very interesting set up at plate. Has a short arm action throwing from a ¾ arm slot in the outfield.  Sound footwork and clean exchange. Throws have average carry on them at 75 mph. Interesting young prospect to keep an eye on. 

Nathan Kendall OF Bohemia Manor 2017
rojectable frame at 5-foot-10, 150-pounds. Ran a 7.44 60-yard dash. Hits from a balanced set up.  Short load to foot strike.  Level swing path with average bat speed. Could work on creating rhythm within swing. Interesting to see as he matures. Exit velocity of 78 mph. Has a short arm action throwing from a high ¾ arm slot in the outfield.  Sound footwork and could work thru the ball more to create outfield momentum on throws. Throws had some carry on them at 76 mph.  

Silvio Morisi OF Perry Hall Christian 2018
Athletic frame with room to grow at 5-foot-11, 140-pounds.  Ran a 8.34 60-yard dash. Hits from an athletic set upwith short leg kick to hitting position. Has short path to the ball and goes inside-out at times. As he gets stronger should show better barrel control in swing. Exit velocity of 67 mph. Has active feet in the outfield.  Clean exchange with a long loose arm action from a ¾ arm angle. Throws from the outfield at 71 mph.

James Moses OF Loyola-Blakefield 2017
Solid frame at 5-foot-8, 165-pounds. Ran a 7.19 60-yard dash. Hits from a square, athletic set up. Higher leg kick involved in load to hitting position.  Shows nice rhythm in swing.  Short bat path to the ball with a middle approach. Nice extension through contact. Shows balance throughout the swing. Exit velocity of 80 mph. Active feet in the outfield with soft hands and a clean exchange.  Has quick, loose arm action throwing from a high ¾ arm slot.  Throws had some carry on them at 82 mph.

Spencer Peltz OF Calvert Hall 2018
Solid frame at 5-foot-7, 150-pounds. Ran a 7.90 60-yard dash. Hits from a slightly closed set up. Short load with small leg kick to hitting position. Level swing path with some extension through contact.  Nice balance throughout swing. Exit velocity of 68 mph. Sound footwork in the outfield. Clean hands and quick exchange throwing from a ¾ arm slot. Short arm action with an outfield velocity of 72 mph.

Ethan Sands OF Mt. Hebron 2017
Athletic frame with room to add on at 5-foot-8, 130-pounds. Ran a 7.21 60-yard dash. Hits from a blanced set up.  Short load with small stride to hitting position.  Short path to the baseball and shows some extention.  Flicks wrist through contact with slap hitting style. Exit velocity of 69 mph. Active feet in outfield and works thru ball well. Clean exchange throwing from a high ¾ arm angle. Outfield throwing velocity of 75 mph. gets rid of the ball quickly in the infield. Quick exchange and release.  Infield velocity of 80 mph.

Nicholas Torroella OF Mount. St. Joseph 2017
Athletic frame at 5-foot-11, 185-pounds. Hits from a square athletic set up. Short load with small leg kick.  Shows some rhythm throughout swing. Short path to the ball and gets around at times. Nice balance throughout swing. Exit velocity of 81 mph. Active feet in the outfield. Gets momentum through the ball on throws. Throws from an almost over-the-top arm slot. Clean exchange and release. Throws have nice carry on them at 86 mph.
