10.26.13 Unsigned Senior Showcase Analysis: The Position Players

Last week we looked at the Pitcher-only players from the Unsigned Senior Showcase. Today we break down the players who attended as position players only.  Tomorrow we will break down the two-way players.

Top Prospects

1. Ron Williams, C/OF, Grosse Point South HS, 2014
6-foot, 190-pound athlete from good program.  High-energy player.  Offensively minded.  Can play a corner outfield.  Good pop in the bat with 87mph off the bat.  One of the power bat options left in the state.  Softer hands defensively.  Over the top slot. 77mph from the outfield. Pop times ranged between 2.07-2.33.

2. Elijah Walker, SS, Hamilton HS, 2014
Good overall athlete.  Lean 6-foot-1, 179-pound middle infielder.  Plays fast.  Got rid of the ball quickly.  Moved well laterally.  Slinger arm action from low ¾ arm action. Was able to throw from multiple angles.  Sit and spin hitter at the plate.  Fast hands.  Gets a bit choppy.  Has good foundation for improvement needs the right program to help develop. 6.94 runner.

3. Brad Spieldenner, OF/MIF, Vicksburg HS, 2014
Very good athlete.  Nice size with athletic lean build 6-foot, 170-pounds.  Above average runner (6.94).  Shows good motor.  Worked out both in the infield and the outtield.  80+ from the outfield and 76mph in the infield.  Pushes the ball a bit.  At the plate has good shoulder trigger.  Simple repeatable mechanics.  Would like to see him incorporate more lower half and take advantage of his athleticsm.

4. Robert Ellebracht, MIF/OF, H.H. Dow HS, 2014
Smaller compact middle infielder 5-foot-8, 150-pounds.  Solid runner 7.25.  Projects best as a 2B at the next level. Showed quick lateral movements.  Covered good ground.  Open stance at the plate.  Has a little buggy whip in the swing.  Got to extension.

 

Best of the Rest (Alphabetically)

Jacob Armstrong, OF, Clarkston, 2014
Stocky 5-foot-9 OF from Clarkston HS.  Good runner 6.97 in the 60.  Longer arm action. Arm strength was solid 81mph.  Balanced setup at the plate initially ending in front foot finish.  Fast bat.  Good lower half.  Hands worked well.

 

Nick Hayes, OF, Cousino HS, 2014
Lanky 6-foot, 170-pound OF with room to grow.  Solid runner 7.09 Longer arm action  from ¾ slot. (77mph) played through the ball.  Lefthanded stick from the plate.  A bit pull happy.  Short strider with level path.  Best suited for a smaller school.


Adam Klebba, SS/2B, Clarkston HS, 2014
Smaller middle infielder.  5-foot-8. Longer arm action 76mph across the diamond.  Quick exchange and instincts.  Shorter bat path at the plate.  Does drop his hands . 7.25 runner.  Projects best as a 2B at the next level.

 

Scott Sittser, C/3B, Muskegon Oakridge HS, 2014
Sittser continues to improve. 5-foot-11, 195-pound catcher.  Should see pop times improve as he shortens arm action..  Pop times hovered around 2.2-2.3  Smooth load at the plate with balanced setup.  Line drive contact hitter.
