LIVONIA - Leadership, toughness and intelligence are all qualities found in Drew Alsobrooks.

That was more than enough for Central Michigan to offer the Livonia Churchill senior and a commitment from the left-handed pitcher followed.

“I always liked Central and the campus,” Alsbrooks noted. “It’s one of the nicest facilities I’ve seen. It’s all connected with indoor batting cages and a football facility for long toss with a big weight room.”

Interest began a year ago after the Future Games, but this summer came a change at the top of the CMU baseball program.

“When the new coach (Jordan Bischel) took over in July I went on a visit and met him,” explained Alsobrooks, who began talks with the previous staff at Central in 2017. “He seemed like a good guy and wants to take the program in the right direction. The other coaches seem like the best of guys and a week later they offered. About four or five days later I decided.”

A strong performance from Alsobrooks at the Top Prospect Games in June proved beneficial even before the new coach was in place.

“I threw well there and after that things escalated once the new staff took over,” Alsobrooks said. “The coach believed in me.”
