Logan Hylek C / 3B / Grand Ledge, MI / 2020

GRAND LEDGE - Logan Hylek is trying to get the whole spectrum when it comes to college visits.

“They’re all different, but I like everything about them,” noted the Grand Ledge junior. “Davenport had a smaller campus and Western was a big place.”

There has also been a visit to Lansing Community College with the 39th-rated 2020 in the state also talking to Eastern Michigan and Central Michigan as well as Ball State and Miami, where he has gone to camps the past two weekends.

“Some of them saw me at high school games,” Hylek said. “Grand Ledge has a good team (reaching the D-I state quarterfinals before losing to the eventual state runners-up in the tournament) and they wanted to see us. A couple saw me in summer ball and there were coaches that also saw me at the Future Games.”

The PBR event helped give the fourth-ranked junior catcher in Michigan exposure.

“That was a different atmosphere,” Hylek reflected. “There was great competition with a lot of coaches. It’s not something you see every day as a high school player with all the scouts watching you.

“I did well defensively and I had some good swings. I heard from Ball State and Eastern Michigan after that and I was talking with Western before and after it.”

There was a lot that those in attendance saw in the 5-10 160-pounder.

“They like my leadership behind the plate and how I can control everybody out there,” Hylek explained about the colleges he has been in contact with on the recruiting trail. “They like my bat speed, they like my arm behind the plate and they like me defensively.”

Aaron Wilson, PBR Michigan Director of Scouting, sees those qualities in Hylek.

“Logan is a strong defensive catcher with quick feet,” Wilson noted. “He blocks well and receives with soft hands. He has good enough hands to play in the middle infield as well. At the plate he's a gap-to-gap guy.”
