I recently had the opportunity to speak with Patrick Leatherman of Jenison HS about his commitment to Central Michigan University as well as some other topics.

Patrick ultimately decided on CMU over other programs including Michigan, Michigan State, Notre Dame, and Western Michigan University. It all came down to the coaching staff and how they bring a competitive environment to the team and the staff as well as the recent success the program is having.

Currently the 18th ranked prospect in the 2014 class, Pat is a big bodied big arm righty at 6’4 195 pounds. On-line delivery with H ¾ slot. Pat's velocity has sat primarily between 86-87 but has touched 90 mph in the past. His change-up improved considerably during the season as he gains a feel for the pitch and comes to the plate at 74 mph. The breaking ball had looser spin at 73 mph and needs some improvement to be considered an out pitch at the next level. Still has a lot of projection in the body with added maturity and strength.

Going into the year, Patrick said the goal for Jenison and himself was to win the OK White Conference, then go on to play into the district tournament as well as regional's and state.

Going into this week, Jenison was 12-7 with a 6-7 overall record in conference but still have a shot in the conference tournament against the rest of the field.

Coming into this week, Pat has pitched 30 innings while striking out 39 batters and without allowing an earned run.

Pat is planning on studying Secondary Education and Special Education, which was also a strong influence in Pat’s decision as CMU offers one of the best education programs in the state.
