Michigan Top Ten Breakdown: Top Viewed Prospect Profiles - #3 Karl Kauffmann

Karl Kauffmann#3 Karl Kauffmann, RHP, Brother Rice, 2016 (Michigan commit)
Background: After bearing down on OF Nick Plummer in 2015, scouts will return to Brother Rice this spring to get their looks at Kauffman. The Michigan recruit has a projectable frame and a smooth delivery with a loose arm action. His fastball can sit 90-92 mph and he has run it up to 94-95. Kauffman is currently ranked No. 34 in the PBR Draft 100. That ranking isn’t based on where a player is likely to get picked because factors like signability aren’t considered, but it’s representative of his talent. That puts him in the second or third round conversation. Keep in mind, we still have six months until the draft and Kauffman has a whole high school season to be evaluated. But as it stands right now, I think it’s fair to consider him in that second to fourth round range. A good spring could put him on the high end or above that mark, or perceived signability could cause him to drop.

The Numbers: The No. 1 ranked prospect in Michigan's 2016 class and 21st overall has committed to the University of Michigan a few months back and now fully committed for the upcoming spring season and the MLB draft.
