Michigan Top Ten Breakdown: Top Viewed Prospect Profiles - #5 John Malcom

John Malcom#5 John Malcom, 1B/LHP, Country Day, 2018 (Vanderbilt commit)
Scouting Report: Malcom is committed to Vanderbilt and has a projectable 6-foot-4, 200-pound frame. He stands tall with a wide base and uses a leg kick with his load. He shows good rhythm with plus bat speed and plus raw power. His exit velocity was 93 mph and he ran a 7.00 60-yard dash. On the infield, he shows smooth actions and sets his feet well when turning the double play. His velocity across the diamond was 80 mph. On the mound, he throws from a high-3/4 with a long, loose arm action. His fastball had downhill action while sitting 81-83 mph and showing occasional arm-side run. His curveball had 2/8 break and showed good depth at 70-72 mph. His changeup sat 76-77 mph.

Overview: In 2016, the talented '18 two-way prospect saw his stock soar, and now sits at the #2 spot in the state prospect rankings and 30th overall. The Country Day product was apart of our 2015 Futures teams for Michigan and used that platform to showcase his talents. Look for this junior to be one of the top players in the Midwest this spring and with continued development, the sky is the limit.
