TPGs Ignite Interest Resulting In Ball State Commitment For Rutkowski

Nicholas Rutkowski RHP / SS / Stevenson, MI / 2019

LIVONIA - Nick Rutkowski admitted having a chip on his shoulder when he went to the Top Prospect Games in late June. The Stevenson right-handed pitcher came out of the TPGs with college interest that eventually ended up in a commitment to Ball State.

“They first started talking to me at the Top Prospect Games at Eastern Michigan at the end of June,” explained the 5-11 175-pounder. “I pitched two innings and when I got back to the bench I had a text from the pitching coach (Dustin Glant) there.”

A week later Ball State saw Rutkowski throw at Grand Park near Indianapolis.

“They offered me there,” Rutkowski said. “I didn’t want to commit right away but it didn’t take long to realize Ball State was my best options.”

Prior to the TPGs, Ohio Valley was the lone school showing an interest in the 20th-ranked player in the 2019 class in Michigan.

“Other than Ohio Valley, I had nothing,” Rutkowski pointed out. “I knew summer was going to big for me, I just had to stay patient.”

An impressive performance at the Top Prospect Games sped up the process.
