Tobel Making Strides To Play At The Next Level

HOWELL - Logan Tobel knows what he wants in the immediate future.

“I plan on winning a state championship with my high school team, plus getting better, faster and bigger,” the Hartland junior said.

The third-rated uncommitted 2020 middle infielder in Michigan has already been working toward those goals.

“In the past six months I have gained 30 pounds,” noted Tobel, now 6-3 and 195 pounds.

That timeframe has also found the top-ranked second baseman in the state gaining interest on the recruiting trail.

“There are a couple schools that are interested,” explained Tobel, who also has the ability to play elsewhere in the infield. “I got an offer from Wayne State, and Eastern Michigan and Bowling Green are also interested in me. They saw me during the summer and at the Future Games. They like that I hustle and compete every game.”

Being part of Team Michigan at the PBR event in August proved to be crucial in Tobel’s recruitment.

“The Future Games has helped me a lot,” pointed out Tobel. “After the Future Games I got a lot of emails from coaches and also texts on Sept. 1 saying that they saw me at the Futures and they were interested in the way I play. It was huge exposure for me and everyone there.”

It has the 36th-rated junior in Michigan closing in on a life-long dream.

“I’ve wanted to play baseball at the next level my whole life,” Tobel said. “When I got my first call from Wayne State it all started getting realistic.”

But Tobel understands that improvement is needed for it to take place.

“I need to get my arm strength up and continue to work on getting faster,” Tobel explained.

When it comes to other aspects of the game, Tobel has what college programs need.

“Logan has the ability to play all over the diamond,” noted PBR Michigan director of scouting Aaron Wilson about the two-sport athlete. “He has good speed with a line-drive approach. He works the middle and opposite field of the diamond at the plate.”

Tobel credits two people in particular as being influential in helping his game get to where it is today.

“My summer coach Bobby Marten has been the most impactful person in my baseball career,” Tobel said in reference to the coach of the Michigan Bulls. “He has coached me since I was tiny and has taught me everything I know now.
