Evaluation:  6/20/16- 6-foot, 190-pound right-handed hitting 2-way player. Strong frame. 7.6 runner. Athletic balanced set-up in box. Good rhythm and bat path through zone. Flashes pop in bat with mid/pull approach. Has extension through contact. 84 mph exit velocity. Fields out front with soft glove and adequate feet. Solid carry and accuracy to bag with longer release. 79 mph arm strength across diamond. Strong follow in 2017 class with bat. Simple controlled delivery with long clean arm action. Longer stride and loses lower half on release. Fastball was 74-77 mph with slight running action for strikes. 12/6 breaking was left short of plate.

PBR: Why did you choose Ellsworth CC? 
COLLINS: I chose Ellsworth because I felt like it was the right fit for me. Making the decision to attend a junior college is the best route I can take in order to become stronger and develop into a better baseball player.

PBR: What other schools were you considering? 
COLLINS: The other schools I was considering were Winona State, St. Scholastica, Southwest MN State, Upper Iowa, Iowa Lakes Community College. I also communicated with several other colleges.

PBR: Where did the coaching staff first see you? How did your relationship develop with them? 
COLLINS: The coaching staff first saw me at the PBR Prospect Games and then they saw me at the Showtime Showcase in Apple Valley. Coach Akre and I then spoke over the phone a couple weeks following the showcases. I eventually went down to visit Ellsworth.

PBR: Do you feel relieved now that the process is over and you can just focus on baseball and not deal with everything that goes into picking a school? 
COLLINS: Yes, I feel very relieved. It's so nice knowing that I don't have to worry about what school I will be attending after high school. I can sit back and enjoy the rest of my senior year and focus on preparing for baseball in the spring.

PBR: Was there one deciding factor that put your choice over the top? 
COLLINS: A huge deciding factor for me was the coaching staff. Coach Akre, Coach Ali and Coach Ratz all seem like great guys with a competitive mindset. Coach Akre also has so many connections with four-year colleges.

PBR: Who has helped you the most to get to where you are today? 
COLLINS: There are so many people that have contributed to my baseball career. Brent Grengs, who has coached me since I was 11 years old. Jon Graff, the Farmington varsity head coach. Mike Winters, the assistant varsity coach. Donald Blunt, who was my first club coach for Minnesota MOB and who now coaches for TCBA. Chase Hentges, who worked with me on arm care and arm strength in the off seasons. Brett Thorney, who was my coach for TCBA this summer and fall. Thorney also helped me develop into the kind of player I needed to be to get to the college level. Last but not least, my parents. A lot of this would not have been possible without my parents and their support.

PBR: What were your expectations about the recruiting process? Was it easy/difficult? 
COLLINS: The recruiting process was a great learning experience. It wasn't always easy but I learned a lot. Along the way I met a lot of excellent coaches and visited some nice campuses.

PBR: What plans does the coaching staff have in store for you in your freshman season? 
COLLINS: The coaching staff believes that I can contribute right away as a freshman offensively and defensively.

PBR: What is your most memorable baseball moment to date? 
COLLINS: My favorite baseball memory was from this past baseball season when I was a Junior. Farmington was playing Prior Lake and I hit an RBI double off of Nick Hanson to tie the game. Hanson is now playing in the Cincinnati Reds Organization.

PBR: Who is the best player that you have competed against?
COLLINS: The best players I have competed against are probably Nick Hanson and Sam Carlson.
