Commitment Spotlight: 18' Eli Emerson, RHP, Rocori

Josh Threlkeld
Prep Baseball Report Minnesota

Our commitment spotlight today focuses on Eli Emerson, 2018 RHP out of Rocori. Eli currently boasts a lanky 6'0, 155lbs frame with broad shoulders that will provide room for lots of growth. He is one of the more mechanically sound pitchers who excels at gathering at the top of his motion to deliver everything efficiently and directionally to the plate. Natural arm speed is the catalyst to Emerson's pitching game where everything he throws is with the same arm speed. Even as strength and velocity continue to develop this should help to bring about further development and effectiveness for his off speed offerings. We want to wish the best to Eli in his remaining days with Rocori and in the future at St. Scholastica!

PBR: Why did you choose St. Scholastica?
I chose the school because it was the place I felt the most comfortable. The coaches are great and I love the area in Duluth

PBR: What other schools were you considering?
Minnesota-Duluth, Dakota County TC, St. Johns, Saint Mary's, St. Thomas, St Cloud Tech, and Century

PBR: Where did the coaching staff first see you? How did your relationship develop with him (Phone calls, on-campus visits, etc.)?
They first saw me at the Junior Showcase. I went up for their camp in the summer and got pretty close to them after that. Coach Kemp and Coach Swartz already have built a great relationship with me.

PBR: Was there one deciding factor that put your choice over the top?
Definitely the coaches. I really bought into what they presented to me and they believe I can have success there

PBR: Who has helped you the most to get to where you are today?
My pitching coach Russ Huls. He taught me everything I know and gave me a lot of confidence pitching at the varsity level.

PBR: What plans do you have in store for you in your freshman season at your new school?
Work as hard as I can and hopefully get some playing time early!

PBR: What advice would you give to others that are currently or will soon be going through the recruiting process?
Go where you feel the most comfortable

PBR: Are you competing in any fall or winter sports?
I just wrapped up my senior football season. Now I will be lifting weights in the offseason for baseball.

PBR: In a few sentences, tell us about your high school team in terms of goals for the season and strengths your team possesses that will be pivotal in helping to get there (pitching, defense, offense, chemistry, etc.).
We have a lot of pitching coming back this year and as a team we have great chemistry. We all played together coming up and our goal is to make the state tournament and hopefully make a good run!
