The Prep Baseball Report MN Preseason Underclass event took place on Saturday, March 18, 2017. The event was held at the Vadnais Sports Center in Vadnais Heights, MN. The event featured prospects from the 2019 & 2020 grad classes; and included many breakout performances from this year's participants. Players showcased their talents in front of our scouting staff and college coaches in attendance.

Today we take a look at the pitchers that were in attendance at this year's event.

pitcher Evals (alphabetical) 

William Anderson, LHP, St. Michael-Albertville, 2019
5-foot-11, 162-pound left-handed pitcher. Athletic delivery, slight pause at balance point, slight stab on back-side interrupting arm swing, clean and loose out front. Fastball was 77-78 mph with cut action to plate. Big 1/7 shape on curveball with good spin and depth. Developing changeup thrown at 68-71 mph. Projectable arm action- strong follow in 2019 class.

Blake Ask, RHP/2B, Wayzata, 2019
5-foot-11, 170-pound right-handed hitting 2-way player. Solid tempo and rhythm on mound, tuck and turn over rubber, hard stab down on back-side of arm action, clean out front with extension and finish. Fastball was 74-75 mph, touching 77 mph, with slight cutting action. 11/5 breaking ball shows early shape to plate. Flat wobbly action on changeup thrown with stiff wrist. 7.68 runner. Crouched stance, heavy body load, flat swing plane, some present strength, pull hitter with flashes of pop in bat, 73 mph exit velocity. Sure hands, choppy rhythm, solid/avg. feet and actions, accurate to bag, long release on throws, 76 mph arm strength across infield.

Justin Bach, RHP, Chaska, 2019
5-foot-11, 165-pound right-handed pitcher. Wiry strong frame, controlled tempo, slight tuck and turn, short arm action, solid arm path down and through body. Fastball was 79-80 mph, hides ball from hitter, with late ASR in bottom of zone. Slider has sharp break, solid depth, and is a solid/above avg. pitch. Changeup has good action, inconsistent feel for zone, and should continue to improve.

Brenden Baxter, SS/RHP, Rochester John Marshall, 2019
5-foot-9, 135-pound right-handed hitting 2-way player. 8.22 runner. Tall stance, double tap trigger, line drive swing plane, shows ability to use whole field, 72 mph exit velocity. Avg. actions in field, has made solid improvements overall since last year, fields routine, throws have solid carry with accuracy to bag from long release, 77 mph arm strength across infield. On mound; athletic delivery, tuck and turn delivery, OT slot, effort in release with head jerk. Throws strikes with 70-73 mph fastball with deceptive arm-side run. Has feel for changeup with solid down action, plays off fastball, and currently his best pitch. Curveball has slurvy shape with loose spin to plate.

Duke Benge, 2B/RHP, Lakeville South, 2019
5-foot-8, 165-pound switch hitting 2-way player. 7.64 runner. LHH- simple rhythm, controlled knee to knee trigger, slight lift in swing plane, consistent solid contact. RHH- more up tempo and aggressive, mid/pull approach, hard line drive contact, 83 mph exit velocity. Creates angles, works through ball, sure hands, solid accuracy to bag, 78 mph arm strength across infield. On mound; controlled delivery, shows back packet at balance point, varies arm angles, works downhill from high ¾ slot. Fastball was 75-76 mph showing slight run and sink action. Solid shape on 11/5 breaking ball; sharper 10/4 break on curveball from side-arm slot. Varying action on changeup for strikes.

Jeremy Brown, 1B/RHP, North St. Paul, 2020
6-foot-2, 190-pound left-handed hitting 2-way player. 8.77 runner. Upright stance, slight hitch in load, easy swing, contact out front, mid/pull approach, 75 mph exit velocity. Short arm action, accurate, sound hands, makes routine plays, 71 mph arm strength across field. On mound; rocker step into balance point, longer strides, short arm action, limited path on back-side of arm circle. Fastball was 69-71 mph with varying action to the plate. 11/5 curveball had loose spin and early break. Showed good command of changeup with above avg. fade.

Caiden Bruns, RHP/3B, Rochester Lourdes, 2019
6-foot-3, 210-pound right-handed hitting 2-way player. On mound; short rocker step back into short tuck and turn delivery, drop and drive lower half, pie arm action to plate. Fastball was 81-83 mph with late life and ability to repeat for strikes. Slider action on breaking ball, tends to change arm slot, and should continue to develop. Slows arm on changeup; still shows solid fade and depth to plate. 8.09 runner. Square stance, shoulder load, some length to contact, flashes pop in bat, works gap to gap, 85 mph exit velocity. Sound hands, avg./ok rhythm working through ball, accurate throws with carry to bag, 82 mph arm strength across field.

Danny Callahan, OF/RHP, Cretin-Derham Hall, 2019
6-foot-1, 195-pound left-handed hitting 2-way player. 7.78 runner. Simple rhythm with hands, easy knee to knee trigger, shows decently loose bat path through zone, line drive hitter, gap to gap, with ability to use whole field, 86 mph exit velocity. Sound hands, plays through ball, appropriate angles, clean arm action, solid carry and accuracy, 77 mph arm strength from outfield. On mound; controlled mechanics, gathers over rubber, clean arm action, OT slot. Fastball was 76-78 mph, thrown on downhill plane, with straight action. Above avg. feel and action on secondary pitches. Curveball has sharp 11/5 break with command of zone and changeup shows well above avg. fade thrown at fastball arm speed.

Maxwell Carlson, RHP/OF, Burnsville, 2020
6-foot, 155-pound right-handed hitting 2-way player. Whippy arm from an immature frame. Ran his fastball up to 88 and sat 86-88 with some ASR. Crisply repeats motion. Dropped his elbow some on the slider (70mph), but it showed tight spin with 11/5-10/4 break. Got under it a bit, but it has a chance to be a swing and miss pitch. Showed plus feel for the changeup at 71-72 for strikes with nice fading action. Much more velocity to come for him as he matures. 7.02 runner with long strides. At the plate showed easy rhythm and balance with a two-handed hard swing and finish. Ball jumped off his bat and he worked line drives to the middle of the field. Arm worked with carry from the outfield with a loose, medium swing. 91 mph arm strength from outfield.

Mitchel Casperson, SS/RHP, LeSueur-Henderson, 2020
5-foot-8, 140-pound left-handed hitting 2-way player. 7.57 runner. Solid swing for 2020, stays connected, easy load and stride, consistent solid contact to mid/pull side of field, 79 mph exit velocity. Creates angles, solid actions, soft glove, clean exchanges, long clean arm action on throws, 74 mph arm strength across infield. On mound; athletic delivery, long arm action, has extension out front, dlean delivery and repeats well. Fastball was 76-77 mph a slight downhill plane. Solid shape and break on 11/5 curveball. Changeup is firm; with flashes of above avg. fade.

Noah Christenson, SS/RHP, Buffalo, 2020
5-foot-9, 155-pound right-handed hitting 2-way player. 8.14 runner. Body and shoulder load, solid strength, leg kick trigger, line drive swing plane, consistent solid contact, 80 mph exit velocity. Solid footwork, decent athlete, plays with energy, accurate arm to bag, 73 mph arm strength. On mound; Uptempo delivery, athletic balance point, has direction to plate, out and over front side- loses power in lower half. Fastball was 75-76 mph, touching 78 mph, with straight action to plate. Curveball has tight 11/5 shape with small break. Good arm action on changeup with solid action. Knuckleball is solid with zero spin and late drop action.

Nolan Conzemius, C/RHP, Cretin-Derham Hall, 2019
5-foot-10, 165-pound right-handed hitting catcher. 7.78 runner. Square stance, body load, shows hand-eye coordination, uses both gaps, line drive and ground ball contact, 80 mph exit velocity. Has strong glove, sticks low strikes, flexible and moves well behind plate, quick exchange and release, 2.00-2.09 pop times with 73 mph arm strength. On mound; short arm action, lands slightly closed, OT slot. Fastball was 73-75 mph with straight action to plate. Slurve shape on curveball, solid spin, with early break. Changeup was consistent, thrown for strikes, with solid depth.

Kathan Decker, 2B/RHP, Eastview, 2019
5-foot-7, 160-pound right-handed hitting 2-way player. 7.59 runner. Weight shift and slight shoulder load, quiet head, line drive swing plane, some stiffness through zone, flashed hard line drive contact to both sides of field, 82 mph exit velocity. Solid fielder, quick release, avg. rhythm playing through, solid actions and skills at second base, 76 mph arm strength across infield. On mound; overhead windup, uncontrolled front leg, occasionally upright on release, short arm action from ¾ slot. Fastball was 74-77 mph with slight running action to plate. Above avg. breaking ball showing tight rotation, depth, with 10/4 shape. Late run and sink on firm changeup for strikes.

Noah Dehne, SS/RHP, Minnehaha Academy, 2019
5-foot-10, 160-pound right-handed hitting 2-way player. 7.26 runner. Body load with barrel tip trigger, shows good hands at plate, easy swing, line drive hitter, uses both gaps, 84 mph exit velocity. Quality job of keeping it simple in field, sure hands, strong footwork, quick release with accuracy, shows attributes of being very consistent solid infielder. 76 mph arm strength across infield.

Raleigh Droel, OF/RHP, St. Thomas Academy, 2020
5-foot-11, 184-pound right-handed hitting 2-way player. 7.45 runner. Open stance, pre-set hands with rhythm, knee to knee trigger, quick hands to contact, solid extension, solid line drive contact, mid/away approach, 85 mph exit velocity. Solid/avg. actions in field, limited momentum to field, throws flat-footed, clean arm action with accuracy to target, 74 mph arm strength from outfield.

Sam Dufault, LHP/1B, Mound Westonka, 2019
6-foot-1, 170-pound right-handed hitting 2-way player. 7.38 runner. Loads hands with wiggle movement, some stiffness to bat path, mid/away contact, flashes of pop when extended through baseball, 89 mph exit velocity. Usable glove, solid footwork, works around bag ok, short arm action, 71 mph arm strength across field.

Taylor Elder, RHP/3B, Eagan, 2019
6-foot-3, 230-pound right-handed hitting 2-way player. Short turn into balance point, solid rhythm and tempo, short compact arm action. Fastball was 75-78 mph, hides ball from hitter, with arm-side run. Curveball was inconsistent, 11/5 shape, and tended to back up to plate. Changeup has good depth and action; avg. feel for zone. 9.08 runner. Open stance, shoulder load, solid rhythm in hands, shows ability to drive ball to oppo field, 83 mph exit velocity. Avg. actions with sure hands, lacks mobility and quickness, makes routine plays, 71 mph arm strength across infield.

Henry Emmerich, RHP/2B, Prior Lake, 2020
5-foot-10, 170-pound left-handed hitting 2-way player. Solid rhythm and tempo on mound, strides across body, short arm action, with finish and extension to plate. Fastball was 78-80 mph, minimal effort, with cut action to plate. Early break on curveball with 10/4 break and bigger shape. Cut action on changeup with avg. feel for zone. 7.75 runner. Square stance, shows rhythm in hands with shoulder load, has present strength, line drive swing plane with lift through contact, good hands to baseball, gap to gap hitter, 87 mph exit velocity. Sure hands, solid actions, avg. routes and angles, quick release on throws with accurate arm, 74 mph arm strength.

Luis Felemovicius, SS/RHP, Hopkins, 2019
6-foot, 160-pound right-handed hitting 2-way player. 7.56 runner. Body load, clean line drive swing plane, avg. rhythm, flashes hard pull contact, 77 mph exit velocity. Sure hands, presents glove late, solid athlete, makes routine plays, throws have carry and accuracy to bag, 78 mph arm strength across infield. On mound; projectable frame, rocker step into short balance point, swings front leg down landing across body, long arm action, ball jumps out of hand in front, good extension to plate. Fastball was 78-79 mph, touching 81 mph, with straight action to plate. 11/5 curveball has bigger shape with sharp break and depth. Varying action on usable changeup for strikes.

Will Frisch, RHP/3B, Stillwater, 2019
6-foot-1, 210-pound right-handed hitting 2-way player. 7.98 runner. Comfortable in box, body load, above avg. bat speed, works middle of field, flashes pop in bat, fly ball contact, 90 mph exit velocity. Works through baseball, sure hands, shows actions, above avg. carry and accuracy to bag, 86 mph arm across infield. 89-91 mph on mound with heavy sink. Whippy short arm action from loose ¾ slot. Fastball was consistently down in zone for heavy strikes. Power changeup with plus arm-side run and sink. Slider has cutter action, 80-82 mph, with small short break. Highest of follows in 2019 class.

Kolby Gartner, 3B/RHP, St. Michael-Albertville, 2020
6-foot-1, 180-pound right-handed hitting 2-way player. 7.65 runner. Easy load and stride, head stays down and through contact, repeats swing well, flashes pop in bat with gap to gap approach, consistent solid contact, 89 mph exit velocity. Active in field with range, fields low and out front, sound hands, avg. arm action and accuracy to bag, 72 mph arm strength across infield. On mound; deep sideways arm path on back-side, close to pie arm action, lands across body. Fastball was 76-78 mph with late cutting action for strikes. 11/5 curveball has loose spin and early break. Avg. action on changeup with flat plane.

Drew Gilbert, OF/LHP, Stillwater, 2019
5-foot-10, 145-pound left-handed hitting 2-way player. Lean athletic build with proportional strength. 6.95 runner. Upright stance, simple load with leg kick trigger, hard line drive contact with middle/opposite side of field, consistent hard contact, 88 mph exit velocity. Confident fielder with athleticism, uses feet, creates throwing angles, loose above avg. arm with carry to target, 89 mph arm strength from outfield. On mound; controlled to balance point, aggressive down mound, stays closed with front side, has direction to plate. Long buggy whip arm action producing 86-87 mph fastballs, touching 88 mph, with arm-side life. Tight rotation on 1/7 breaking ball; thrown with fastball arm speed. Changeup is work in progress, avg. feel, tends to shorten arm stroke. Highest of follows in 2019 MN class.

Jett Heinen, 3B/RHP, Prior Lake, 2020
5-foot-9, 180-pound right-handed hitting 2-way player. 7.95 runner. Open stance, easy load and leg kick trigger, slight hitch in bat path, flashes above avg. pop in bat, gap to gap hitter, hard contact during BP, 86 mph exit velocity. Solid feet and hands, avg. rhythm and actions, makes routine plays, accurate to bag, short arm action, 75 mph arm strength across infield. On mound; short rocker step into crouched tuck and turn delivery, quick arm action, repeats in zone. Fastball was 80-83 mph with high spin rate and cut action. Solid shape and spin on 11/5 breaking ball for strikes. Shows feel for changeup with late action to plate.

Braden Higgins, LHP/OF, Champlin Park, 2019
6-foot-3, 178-pound left-handed hitting 2-way player. On mound; rocker step back, slight crouch and turn into balance point, stab back in arm circle, short arm action and clean out front. Fastball was 78-82 mph, jumps out of hand occasionally, with flashes of downhill plane. Avg. feel for curveball and changeup. Both show solid action; curveball has solid 12/6 shape and changeup  has fade and depth. 7.21 runner. Pre-set hands and load, length to contact from arm bar, pull approach producing fly ball and ground ball contact, 79 mph exit velocity. Plays on balls of feet, active, avg. reads on baseball, tends to throw flat-footed, accurate to target, 80 mph arm strength from outfield.

Jonah Hoeg, 1B/RHP, Prior Lake, 2020
6-foot-1, 210-pound right-handed hitting 2-way player. 8.06 runner. Wider stance, body load, some length to contact with arm bar, gap to gap hitter, drives ball well when down in zone, flashes of pop in bat, 83 mph exit velocity. Active feet, sure hands, moves around bag well, comfortable and confident receiving throws, quick release with accurate arm, 64 mph arm strength. On mound; pauses in delivery, slightly uncontrolled over rubber, short arm action, hides ball from hitter. Fastball was 75-78 mph showing varying late action to plate. Curveball will morph into slider later on; tight spin with late break. Repeats well with consistent changeup showing action and fade.

Dylan Hoffman, LHP/OF, St. Michael-Albertville, 2019
5-foot-8, 150-pound right-handed hitting 2-way player. On mound; high leg kick delivery, front foot outside knee, repeats well showing body control, H ¾ arm slot. Fastball showed flat action at 71-73 mph. Solid spin and shape on 1/7 breaking ball thrown consistently for strikes. Tends to push changeup with stiff wrist causing flat action to plate. 7.51 runner. Square stance, high back elbow load, clean path to contact, rolls hands over early through zone, flashes solid line drives, gap to gap approach, with ability to use whole field, 79 mph exit velocity. Short ¾ arm action, accurate to target, avg. carry, shows usable glove and actions, 73 mph arm strength from outfield.

Mac Horvath, SS/RHP, Rochester Century, 2020
6-foot, 165-pound right-handed hitting 2-way player. 6.89 runner. Simple stance, minimal rhythm, clean swing plane, lift through contact, creates bat speed, hard line drive and fly ball contact, 90 mph exit velocity. Athletic in field, sure hands, works through ball, follows throws, above avg. carry and accuracy to bag, 87 mph arm across infield. Simple, smooth motion that is compact. High ¾ slot to ¾. Throws crossfire across his body. Up to 87 with little effort and some ASR. Changeup was thrown for strikes at 73-75 with some sink. Slider showed multi-plane break with tight spin. Overall, premium starter at the next level with three pitches for strikes already as a frosh.

Cameron Hunter, 1B/RHP, East Ridge, 2019
6-foot, 205-pound right-handed hitting 2-way player. 7.99 runner. Upright stance, slight arm bar in load, creates above avg. bat speed, gap to gap hitter, fly ball contact with flashes of pop in bat, 91 mph exit velocity. Works down to up, comfortable around bag, accurate arm, solid mobility and range, 82 mph arm strength across field. On mound; large strong frame, slight wrap on backside, clean arm action out front, shows good feel for zone, repeats well and everything is thrown with fastball arm speed. Fastball was 81-84 mph with heavy late cut action. Down-ward action on late fading changeup with deception. Developing feel for breaking ball, thrown hard, with chance to be an above avg. pitch in the future. High Follow prospect in MN 2019 class.

Carter Jorgenson, 3B/RHP, Irondale, 2019
6-foot-1, 170-pound right-handed hitting 2-way player. 7.28 runner. Open stance, loads onto backside, flat swing plane with lift through contact, limited weight transfer in swing, produced hard line drive contact, 79 mph exit velocity. Avg. feet and actions, fields deep underneath body, tends to throw flat-footed across, 69 mph arm strength across. On mound; controlled tempo, deep sideways arm path on backside, low ¾ release point, short arm path across body on release. Fastball was 76-78 mph with cut action and avg. command. Solid 10/4 breaking ball with shape. Late arm-side sinking action on changeup.

Konnor Kirchoffner, RHP/OF, Burnsville, 2020
6-foot-1, 160-pound right-handed hitting 2-way player. Long and lanky frame. Crisp, repeatable delivery with a front shoulder tilt coming down the mound. Limited push from his back side, but was still able to sit 83-84. There is much more in the tank as he learns to use his legs. Easy arm action with some effort right at the end with a head jerk. Uptempo delivery and worked super quick. High ¾ to OTT slot. Multi-tier breaking ball that he babied some (65-68), but should have chance to develop and be an above avg. pitch. 6.82 runner. Upright stance, knee to knee trigger, slight inverted C load, some length to contact, solid pop in bat, mid/pull approach, 82 mph exit velocity. Solid/avg. defensive action, fields routine, plays through ball, uses momentum on throws, 89 mph from the outfield with loose carry and accuracy to target.

Mitch Klass, 1B/LHP, Minnetonka, 2019
6-foot-3, 185-pound right-handed hitting 2-way player. Lean projectable build. 7.32 runner. Square stance, easy load, clean line drive swing path, works middle of field well, mid/pull approach, consistent solid contact, 83 mph exit velocity. Active feet, works down to up, soft glove, moves around bag well, 71 mph arm strength across infield. On mound; projects well on mound, long legs, room to add an easy 20 pounds. Short turn into athletic balance point, higher front side, with easy compact arm action. Fastball was 75-77 mph, touching 80 mph, with varying action and certainly has more in the tank. Has feel for tight 1/7 breaking ball with short break and depth. Late arm-side run and fade on quality changeup.

Maxwell Kohlhepp, OF/RHP, Forest Lake, 2020
5-foot-7, 140-pound right-handed hitting 2-way player. 7.4 runner. Wider stance, short stride, loads hands straight back, late trigger occasionally to swing, solid contact, mid/away approach, 72 mph exit velocity. Active feet, solid routes and angles, confident fielder, short clean arm action, accurate to target, 73 mph arm strength from outfield. On mound; high leg kick into balance point, front foot outside knee, clean compact arm action. Flat action on 72-73 mph fastballs for strikes. Early break on 11/5 curveball. Repeats well on changeup; consistent strikes with depth and fade.

Jacob Kouneski, C/RHP, Minneapolis Southwest, 2019
6-foot-1, 200-pound right-handed hitting 2-way player. Physical with strong lower half. 7.84 runner. Easy body load into launch position, uphill path through contact, flashes pop in bat, fly ball contact to mid/oppo side of field, 83 mph exit velocity. Large frame behind plate, mobile, sticks low strikes, works ball back to middle of plate well, quick feet with direct exchange, get rid of ball well, solid accuracy to bag, 1.83-1.92 pop times with 75 mph arm strength. On mound; short turn into balance point, drop and drive to plate, lands open on release, heavy stab down on back-side and is clean out front with solid hand speed. Fastball was 79-81 mph; touching 82 mph with flat action to plate. 10/4 breaking has flashes of being solid pitch. Avg. fade on 71-72 mph changeup.

Nicolas Linarte, C/RHP, Henry Sibley, 2019
5-foot-9, 180-pound right-handed hitting 2-way player. 7.95 runner. Easy load, quiet head, transfers weight well through contact, line drive approach, solid present strength, clean swing, with flashes of pop in bat with mid/pull approach, 83 mph exit velocity. Quiet easy actions behind plate, sways to pitches, sticks baseball in zone, blocks well, clean arm action, throws downhill, accurate to bag, solid footwork and direction, 2.03-2.2 pop times with 71 mph arm strength.

Bryce Lovcik, C/RHP, Maranatha Christian, 2019
6-foot-1, 175-pound right-handed hitting 2-way player. 7.45 runner. Square spread stance, shoulder load, slight arm bar, lift in swing plane, flashes of hard line drive contact, mid/away approach, 84 mph exit velocity. Has athleticism behind plate, moves well, sways to pitches, ability to stick low strike, block well, strides open to throw, quick release, solid/avg. accuracy to bag, 1.9-1.96 pop times with 76 mph arm strength. On mound; works primarily out of stretch, high leg kick, solid body control, lands closed and inline with catcher, clean arm action, throws downhill from OT slot. Fastball was thrown for strikes at 82-84 mph on steep downhill plane. Solid velo and spin on breaking ball for strikes. Changeup is thrown at fastball arm speed with fade.

Nicholas Magnuson, C/RHP, Rosemount, 2019
5-foot-8, 185-pound right-handed hitting 2-way player. 7.27 runner. Open stance, double tap trigger, line drive swing plane, solid strength, gap to gap hitter with solid contact, 84 mph exit velocity. Moes well to block, smothers ball keeps close to plate, solid receiver, some extra movement, stays low on throws, stiffer arm action, solid accuracy to bag, 2.13-2.22 pop times with 72 mph arm strength. On mound; controlled tempo, short arm action, slight downhill plane, upright on release and falls off to first base side. Fastball was 73-75 mph, topping out at 79 mph, with good feel for zone. Late depth and slider shape on breaking ball for strikes. Cut action on changeup with avg. ability to repeat.

Adam Mazur, SS/RHP, Woodbury, 2019
6-foot, 135-pound right-handed hitting 2-way player. 7.45 runner. Shift weight onto back leg with shoulder load, spray contact, easy effort in swing, uses whole field, 81 mph exit velocity. Solid actions, clean exchanges with quick release, works through ball but stops to throw, solid accuracy to bag, 77 mph arm across infield. On mound; rocker step back, gets turned and balanced over rubber, long clean arm action with extension to plate. Fastball was 79-81 mph with solid life; showing late run and sink. Solid velo on 11/5 breaking ball with depth. Slows arm slightly on changeup; causing flat action to plate.

Gavin McLaughlin, RHP/OF, Rogers, 2019
5-foot-11, 160-pound right-handed hitting 2-way player. On mound; shows athleticism and body control in delivery, pie arm action, lands slightly across body in delivery. Heaviness to the ball with classic left-hander sink. Breaking ball was a true slider at 75-77 with tight, late breaking action. Changeup had flashes of being a plus pitch down in the zone. 7.56 runner. Tall stance with body load, whippy swing, shows pop in bat to both sides of field, lift in swing plane elevating baseballs, 89 mph exit velocity.
